Yes there are lots of things you can do. . . why must this keep coming back to drugs? That is only one thing if you want to debate it please start a seperate thread.

having very reliable friends help depression quite a bit. you would be surprised to see what the power of socializing can do to your personality.

Ah socializing i believe that is the only reason i come to this site now adays. . . I would agree that does seem to help a lot, but you gotta find the true friends for that to work. good thing that i have, and a good girl/guy to that helps a hell of a lot. Damn i was in a state of massive depression before i met my girl.

A relationship is a stupid thing to try and pull you out of it, because you become incredibly emotionally attached and clingy, ruin your relationship by dooming it from the start, and then once you're broken up you'll find out you're even worse off.
As for pot, I won't even get into the debate but it's safe to say that the medical community is largely at odds and the legal situation is almost entirely predicated on propaganda and false logic rather than sound thinking. But that's typical hypocrisy and it's hardly worth noting more than I already have. In terms of fixing depression, no chemical will do it for you, though some can help treat it. While I love marijuana, it's most certainly not a treatment for depression. In fact, it's a miserable treatment for depression. I think the only time one should really be smoking marijuana is when feeling emotionally sound and happy. Smoking when depressed, which is what I'm currently doing, usually makes you mess your life up even further, which I am currently doing. Also, cue Walk Hard drug references. I've taken Abilify, Prozac, Lexapro, Concerta, and a variety of other meds to try and "fix" myself and they've all failed miserably. I took five different meds at once under the direction of a psychiatrist and ended up constantly overdosing and attempting suicide because of how awful it got. I kept trying to commit suicide because of how painful it was to even exist. It feels like being a caged animal. So if I were you guise, I'd consider staying med-free if you can.

Get off the high school weed debate, guys. No-one wants to hear it.
Also people who said, "Dun worry b hapy lul emo". I'd rather you jump in front of a freight train, thanks. That or ignorant less plox. Some good advice has been given in the thread. Mainly from Ananananana and Varia. I myself suffer from depression, I've been dealing with it for about 5 years. At the moment I take Citalopram and Mirtazapine everyday. Hopefully your depression won't get that far. It might be a phase and it might not. If you suspect it's going to stay for a while then you shouldn't worry, as there are loads of options open to you. Don't brush it off and not deal with it, see someone about it. I recommend you do this as depression can lead to a lot of things, anxiety being one of the ones I know of from personal experience. Depression can really mess your life up, but simple things like exercise and talking to someone can really make a huge difference. Eating right would help greatly too. If it does stick around then talking to your doctor is the best option. Your doctor will sort you out with loads of choices, some might involve medication, but I assure you, you'll go through all of the drug free options first. If you do end up taking meds, it'll probably start off with really small dosage, so I wouldn't worry too much. They'll work on changing the little things like mood, and sleep irregularities. If you put your arm in plaster for a broken leg, you can say the same about mental health. Also, one of the biggest things open to you right at this very moment in time, is the internet. Asking for help is already a big step and a good sign towards combating depression. But have you considered researching the illness online as well? You'll get thousands of hits from google. There are loads of sites about that could enlighten you on the illness and the many ways of fighting it.

:] try to meet new people or run, go on a walk to think about things that may make you happier, play/listen/make music(trust me it works, you'll feel proud of yourself if you make a tune you like.) If you have the money go to a concert with friends. Be with friends period. Make new friends :] Play an old enjoyable game:] anything that makes you a little happy on the inside!

Oh, and sending brief emails or text messages or voice messages to your friends once in a while helps too, especially if they respond. Just that little bit of emotional support and kindness to others can go a long way to fighting depression. It's been helping me out lately.

Depression, I believe is a state of mind. I used to be depressed. I took medicine. I tried to be more social and create time filling activities. Didn't do anything. Then about a year ago. I just woke up and decided I didn't want to feel useless anymore. Pills, activities, person contact. Does nothing. It is a state of mind. With will, anyone can overcome.
