Science is young, and though depression is treatable, that's not really a permanent solution through medication. While putting yourself in a good environment is important, the change always has to come from within. There's not really much else to say.

As someone who's manic depressive, the road's a little more difficult for me. But we all have our battles.

Well theres nothing you can do to stop an active volcano. All im saying is dont let your problems gets to you. There can always be something to look forward to in life you just have to find it, and handle any problems that come along in a calm mannor. There really is no reason to let them bog you down.

alright, this makes more sense. however, the inner self *is* subsceptible to such extreme motions, therefore i advise you don't overlook it, especially if you're already in a position of mental suffering. point is that advice not supported by facts is indeed a poor advice, no matter how close you get to the truth.

True im not saying that you should hold all those problems in because that would make things worse, and certainly dont take them out on yourself. For some reason certain people seem to think that help. I would confide in the people that are close to you, well that always seems to help me anyways. I used to have a lot of problems, and things have really cleared up for me since i learned to deal with all the pressure. Im not saying i never get down but i know that there are always ways to make pick myself up again, and that things will get better again.

rRght now esspecially with graduation and all the pressure that goes on during that time. I don't know how many people are with me but try and not let all the pressure get you down.

[Queue sad tune]
Where does depression hurt? Everywhere.
Who does depression hurt? Everyone.

Depression is emotional, sadness, loss of interest, and it's physical too - aches, pains, fatigue.
Cymbalta can help. Ask your doctor about Cymbalta.
Depression hurts. Cymbalta... can help.

I concur with wineandbread here. Nicely put, too. Depression hurts everyone, and it can be hard to cope with. Just do something that can help it go away, and let the results take care of itself. For me, I play FFR and video games a lot. It's not always the best solution, but sometimes people have to use what they have.

NO. Escapism is not a way out. It's just a stopgap fix, like a temporary dam that can't possibly override a mighty river. The change has to come within yourself, nowhere else.

Also, remember that depression not only includes exaggerated response to outside influences, a lot of internal stimuli end up influencing emotions. The only way to combat that is to face yourself and make a change within. The moment you place blame on anyone else, or try to use something external to "fix you", you'll end up at square one and regretting all the stupid crap you just did.

I've been dealing with depression for the greater part of my life, and have been having a more extreme case ever since my mom passed away a couple years ago.

The number one thing that I believe can remedy depression is going outside.

Number two is going outside with other people.

Number three is participating in something you enjoy. Whether it be cars, working out, ultimate frisbee, skating etc. Make sure it's something you enjoy as opposed to a time killer that's fun.

As much as we would like intervention, it's not going to happen. Nobody's going to notice how miserable you are one day and go on a selfless mission to make you feel better about yourself. It's up to you. There are people who care, though. Don't alienate them and let them know you are still there.

I do not recommend medication, drugs or alcohol. They are crutches and don't help you rid yourself of the problems.

Good luck and stay positive.

I hope all of you know that anti-depressant pills are only going to make you more depressed in the long run because of all the side effects.

Exercise really helps being down by the way, mainly because when you exercise your thoughts change from "fml" to "I'm the greatest! Yeah!!!" I know this because it's the same case with me.

a relationship won't always help cure ya blues depending on your age/situation.

when you're young you have a great social need and you can't always be with your girlfriend 24/7 or else you will become depressed.

also those 5 hour energy things are mostly composed of vitamin B complex. Vitamin b12 is an essencial ingredient in anti-depressants.
