It seriously sounds like you are running Vista Basic. It doesn't come with Aero and it disables any way to select it. If you want it you're going to have to upgrade to home premium.

install windows 7 on it. its so much better. or reinstall vista.

Some programs disable Aero.
One of the video players I use does it whenever you play a video. It's an unnecessary performance thing. |
