It's not that you made it sound like crap. It sounds to me like it's intended for something other than what you used it for. It doesn't sound like an orchestra. It might be a great strings sound for string swells or for some string lead in a mix or something, but a patch of it isn't going to sound like a great orchestra. Instead it sounds flatlined.
The thing is that real strings-playing is expressive. The notes are all played a little differently. It's not like piano-roll sequencing. You definitely seem to be influenced by Rossz Csillag Alatt Szulettet. Take a closer listen to the use of strings in that album and hear how dynamic and expressive it is. You will understand, I promise.

I appreciate that but all of the strings on that album are sampled from orchestral recordings. Szamar madar is a full rip of elgars cello concierto that's not his vsts. But I hear what you're saying. But not all of my songs had strings in them

Nothing wrong with sampling live strings. Nothing wrong with soundfonts, etc. Nothing wrong with just using a VST, either. The problem is that the VST is standing alone and being used as the sole focus for a while and just doesn't compel like it could.

Seriously though, the reason I'm saying all this is because this shit has serious potential that isn't being fully realized. I'm not trying to completely bash on it, just saying that you could feasibly do much better.
Pressure turns coal into diamonds and all that.

I think the compositions are great. I just also think that perhaps to make it have a finished feel, you need to work on mixing/production a little more to give your sounds texture and life. I'm learning to do the very same thing myself.

Yes, it's one of the most vital things.
I remember being skeptical about this a few years ago, and the way someone put it to me was "trust me, when you learn to master your music, you will say 'omg when did I become Aphex Twin'"

You become Aphex Twin when you learn to take your Drukqs regularly.

I really think this is some of your best work. Only thing I can say I disliked (other than TMAF being a mix by Oscillator and not you) is that there were really really long breaks or periods of calmness. Some songs, it worked fine. The Wizard's Finale, okay. It was building suspense for the epic breaks. But five minutes was just a little too long IMO for it to really get going. |

On the other hand, I could tell that he, out of all the anti-social, strict people I know in this world, was actually interested in your music. ;D Just pointing that out, because I wan't to say that your album was PHENOMENAL. I'm also using FL8, but still have a long ways to go. Long story short, your music influenced and motivated me to create the thing I love most: Moozik. Oh yeah, and I was wondering if you'd let me step one of your songs for ffr. I'm halfway through stepping 'Please Tell Me The Truth' on sm, and well, I hope I have good enough material for Tass. :P Praise for music and Happy Trails! |

Just listening to your album now, and the best so far has to be Fair Enough for me.
It starts off slow, and no, the string sounds aren't the best, but when the synth comes in (which is a really nice synth), it starts to flow really well. Well done on completing it I'll edit when I find more |

Going STRAIGHT to my iPod. If I had the cash to cough up I would most certainly buy the physical copy.
**** I totally forgot I was going to step Wizard's Finale too. I'm gonna start on that tonight.

Excellent quality and music!
I've listened to your music for a long time, and having this high quality stuff is awesome! Thanks. If I get my hands on some cash I'll be able to donate to you. ;]

PS finished.
![]() Expect it in the next batch for judging hehehehehe Oh and I really liked Drifting Too Far and Fair Enough. The album as a whole was superb, though. Good job. Although, I do agree with Erothyme with some of the orchestral sounds.

Fair Enough, I keep repeating over and over, and listen to another one of your songs, and then want to go back to that...
So I haven't in fact listened to all your album all the way through yet, but I'm getting there ![]() I just love it, like I said at 1:54, and then when the drum and bass drums kick in, its just amazing, if not slightly random (not a bad thing :P) Then at 3:15, you get the same synth as you got at the start, but with a lot more mesmerising rhythmn to it, before going back. Its great, with the pitch shifts etc, which I tend to really like in trancey songs. Last edited by Kage06; 03-8-2009 at 06:32 PM.. |

Thanks a bunch for the amazing feedback guys. I'm sorry i've been in missing in action .. I got stuck out in arizona for a while lol (long story)
As far as the physical copies go. My artist is being ridiculously unreliable as of late.. So there's no artwork, and I'm not going to half ass the album and send you guys a blank cd with some sharpie on it. I'm sure you would rather wait until it was finished before I sent it out ![]() |

So I've kind of put this thread off onto the backburner, I downloaded the rar but never really gave a listen... Now looking at all the 'hype', looks like I need to put my .02 in...
All I'm seeing is a newgrounds-eqsue thread with one long-running industry standard producer getting ganged up on... So here goes... Ima listen to the album, and give my input... Wizard's Asension - I had no problem with the instrumentals. Sounded like your everyday soundfonts to me, well composed, and FX done perfectly... Hate to hear amen so much, but it actually was well done in this track... Very uplifting, kinda wish there was more of a d'nb/IDM feel to it, but overall a good track... I WILL say this... Of many genres I spin at clubs and parties and events, if I spun IDM or the sort, I would probably start my set with this track... Kinda wish it wasn't so reliant on the instrumentals though... Drifting Too Far - Didn't like much. Extremely reliant on instrumentals. Very repetitive. Sorry. Didn't get good 'til 4:15. If I wasn't reveiwing I would have changed the track at about 1:00 in Fair Enough - Nice chill track. Nothin special. Could have been a lot better. Your lead was a pretty sweet synth. Didn't get good til about 3:00 in Goodbye - Nothing that stuck out at me as extremely captivating. Relied heavily on the synth. I did like the little buildup at 3:00, but when it drops, you gotta layer your drums, man, make 'em sound fuller, even if all you plan on doing is 'stopping the record'... wish you had more glitch My New Friend - Eh. Next. Dying Alone In Space - Eh. Next. Constant Mistakes - Sounded good. Seamed like some of the highs might have been clipping a scootch... Please Tell Me The Truth - Actually really liked the feel of this track, some of the effects were pretty sweet... Kinda made me feel like something Disney would sign on for use in a movie hahaha Nowhere To Sleep - Eh. Next. This Is Where I Fall - Eh. Next. (Did like the kinda rolling drums sound though, made me think Deep Forest almost) Dreaming With Eyes Open - Glad to see a track that didn't have a couple min intro haha Could tell that guitar was recorded, cool that you did, but one tip I have is take that initial recording, for example in audacity or soundforge, and clean the static... There is a tool you can use that you sample out the background static you don't need, and it will clear ALL the static from the rest of the track similar... Would work wonders for you! These Mistakes Are Forever - Oscillist, if you're reading this. Simple amazing. I loved the reese-y synth bassline... When it comes in at 1:58 and along with the buildup, and everything that the track has worked up to comes to a final culmination at 2:30... MUAH Beautiful haha That bassline makes the biggest difference im tellin you You Could Have Told Me - YAY! D'nB hahaha Drums need to be layed mang, and it's called D'nB for a reason, I'm not hearing much of a bassline, and the drums are repetitive... But not bad though... Synth sounds very psy-trancey though, not your usual D'nB I'm used to at least, but at least I feel that it was mastered well... Most important thing though, you gotta focus more on the drums if you wanna do a D'nB track, yknow... keep it up though 3:45 caught my attention, I like the buildup synth, sample was ok, but the buildup could have been a lotttttt more epic, gotta play with those drums man haha, at least layer 'em more, so they dont sound so sad and behind the scenes, yknowEscape From The Friendzone - Thought it was very original... Did definitely like it! Had good buildup throughout, and for not being one to enjoy IDM, did like this one... Well played out Wizards Finale - Eh. We're done. SOOOOOOOOOOOOO! All in all. Well done! Much time and effort had gone into this as I can tell! Definitely look forward to seeing future tracks and maybe another 'album' late this year or early next year... Definitely take your time with your tracks and nitpick like crazy! IDM is nowhere near my forte, so I can't say much, but I hope you can get as much help out of what I've said so far to take into consideration... I would definitely love to work on a remix myself, or a collab of sorts or whathaveyou... E-mail dj@polishpat.com with any midis or any other files you feel necessary to make a legit remix, and I'll dubstep on it's ass! Up to you! Again! Good work! Keep it up! And pay attention to Erothyme, to an extent, he's the more adept to IDM than I am, or most people here... ![]()
