you did say you were bad at the game.
Are you adequate at dodging the bullets? IE. can you get through the first 10 levels without taking any damage? Can you multi-task? If so then use Rockets. If you can't multitask, but if you focus hard enough you can dodge most of the shots, use Homing missile. If you just can't dodge period... I'm sorry there isn't a strategy for that.
