Although you don't have to go by anyone's word here and if onehanding is fun for you okay, but here's my 2cents:
I started stepmania onehander, I played plaguemix songs, I got to the point I would AA almost all heavy difficulties. To be frank plaguemix simfiles are utter garbage and ezmode. Anyhow I got around to finding more songs through sites for SM and ultimately Videogame Megapack, I couldn't pass most songs with my onehand skills at that time, I didn't want to suck like that so I switched to spread, was beating my onehand scores in max 2 weeks even while it felt still slightly awkward. Ever since I never looked back, I play song onehanded once in a bluemoon and the garbage performance from the nostalgia-attempt just makes me forget about onehanding for months. If you want to have onehand fun and have something like vertex beta as your epitome of stream speed, which is long way ahead, then knock yourself out. It wasn't my choice. |

The only scores one handers put to shame are the scores they COULD have gotten had they played spread. Simple as that.

also a little note if you didn't know already
you're not getting any extra praise for doing anything one handed from most sm players, including myself |

To Cloud:
I'm having a few problems with that Holy Orders you posted as well, even though I'm two-handed. Though it's far easier than most of the other files of that song out there that I've seen (one thing I've noticed is that stepartists make files that reflect their skill level: skilled players like Shashakiro tend to make hard files, for example), it's still quite a challenge to FC for me. And at whoever made the comment about Vertex Beta being the peak of 1-handed stream speed: It turns out that the 24ths in Holy Orders are about the same speed (136 bpm 24ths = 816 taps per minute as opposed to 800 in VB), so he's pretty good if he can survive the equivalent of 204 bpm 16ths one-handed. I acknowledge that people like RB_Quackies and Bynary Fission can blow him away, but if he's just starting out, that's OK as well. |

how about this
learn both spread AND one-handed or both spread AND index or w/e that way you can enjoy both hard files and easy files I don't think everyone progresses at the same rate with one-handed though, some people can become godly at it others never will. can I have a confirm/deny?

Good scores man. Don't listen to what these people tell you - play what feels right to you. If that's one handed, stay one handed. If you want to play spread, play spread. Don't worry about how good you'll be, and instead concentrate on how much you're enjoying the game the way you play it. ~Bynary Fission |
