Starting Spread.

So I'm switching to spread, after playing Index for a year.

I need help like, what keys to use. Right now I use as - ;'

(English Keyboard, keep that in mind)

But I've seen a lot of other techniques like

ef ; ji

for example...

Any tips? Or is AS - ;' fine?

I like it because it's more spreaded...

A S K L is the most popular setup for spread. its the style that i use. In my opinion its the most comfortable, but really you should play whats most comfortable for you.

As long as there is sufficient space between your keys (in order for the keyboard to register hands and quads), any layout is fine. I personally use XC,. because I will often hit Ctrl + L by accident during gameplay with the ASKL layout.

In FFR I use QW[] but I like it spread out, in SM I use ZX2(numpad)3(numpad)

I like it spread out, as ;' is fine for me I think.

My keyboard is at the left of me rather than center, and my mouse is at the right, I tried as numpad 5 and 6 but it's too spread out so..

Personally, I use "K, L, 7, 5" and I feel that it's the best format for me. Most players use "A, S, K, L" or "Left, Down, 8, 6" though. Really, it depends on your and what you feel most comfortable with.

I use ASL; , it works out pretty good for me. The only problem I have is constantly hitting the Cap Locks button.

i use 4tji which is a variation of efji

feels the most comfortable and makes trills easier for me

I like having my hands spread over the keyboard pretty far, more comfortable, especially on this laptop with the way things are set up.

Play both index and spread.

Anyway, when I started spread, I played dfjk, took me a while to realize that my old keyboard couldn't read quads with that setup though, so I switched to qwop, and have been playing that since. Though very very recently, my p key on this keyboard is starting to stick down sometimes, so I've been playing qwio on this keyboard, but qwop on other keyboards.

I can still index well, I just need about a week of doing nothing but index and then I'm set.

When I started spread, I missed 3-finger (2 hands) so badly it was awful. Then my rank started going up on every hard song I had played (except the streamy ones). Just give it some time, you'll see an improvement.

Update / Bump -

I AAA'd two songs today using Spread, I used the combo/accuracy masker on the FFR Beta to help, and I FC'd 11 songs.

Pretty good, I've only been playing 3 days and I'm doing really well.
