Well the problem is that this movie is being advertised as an adaptation of the DB series. That means there are going to be very modernized elements to everything, changes in characters, events, etc.

Hopefully it doesn't suck, but I'm fairly sure that it will. I can't see a movie like this working out... reminds me too much of Mortal Kombat and Mario Brothers in its approach. It'll still be interesting to watch, but only in the same way that... well, Mortal Kombat and Mario Brothers are interesting to watch :P

The AICN review (these guys tend to be very credible... at least, Harry Knolwes, Moriarty, and Massawyrm are, although in this article, a lot of people accuse the author of being a plant. I can't say for sure either way, but regardless, you can take it at face value here):

It's from The Grudge. It wasn't that scary, it just had things that jump out at you.

that article rubix posted says goku transforms into an 8-9-foot giant ape
i don't think you have to worry about the original picture really being the saiyan transformation.

Actually, I think someone did mention that.

But it's still lacking hair. Even hair on the head, where Goku ALREADY HAS HAIR. That's right, someone actually suggested they would make the monster practical, but CGI the hair in. That makes PERFECT SENSE.
