Gimp is great and can do most things Photoshop can, but it may take more time for some things.
Working in layers is very important, but try not to use gimp rendered things and most filters as it usually doesn't make things look good or original. You could look at gimptalk.com for lots of tutorials, or you can google search gimp tutorials or you can search for something more specific like gimp text tutorials or just gimp text might be good enough.

I downloaded and tested it. It is a portable version of photoshop cs4. This means you don't need to install it and you can run it off of a flash drive or anywhere else. Seems kind of slow though. Last edited by Izzy; 10-29-2008 at 04:42 PM.. |

It usually helps when you say why and give suggestions for improvement... Just saying.

They look a bit messy, but i haven't seen gimp... ever.
I do like your ideas and the only reason I say they look messy is because of your color-scheming. If you had a better feel instead of noise you would see a nice balance. Maybe layer your light, vibrant layers on your darker layers and you might have something. Anytime I needed brushes I looked on deviantart. I also used pixel2life.com for any tutorials I used. I just started using the full array of the photoshop brushes to "enhance" my gfx. Keep up the motivation, good work, and keep growing.

The problem me and ElRayford had with the brushes is it confused us. We had to change some code or something that didn't work. I can't find any directly downloadable versions of them. And thanks for the feedback!

all you need to do to add bruhes is to put the brush file in the right folder, i'll edit this to give the general location
edit: it's normally found here C:\Documents and Settings\Your Username\.gimp-2.4\brushes
