Finally got the Hard Badge on STH3. That laser weapon made all the difference. I also used two shields and one laser instead of my previous setup of two lasers and one shield. I didn't realize how much of a punch that laser delivered. It just completely tears mechs and tanks apart, lol.
As for Zilch, I'm extremely close to 400 plays. I've been slaving away at this thing for *hours* today. It's disgusting. |

I basically just pulled an all-nighter on Zilch. Gold-plated is 500.
Also got 530 on 99 Blocks -- wasn't hard to do at all (although it's not super impressive or anything). Having a strong base is usually a pretty good idea. Around 350 or so, I started making my tower narrower in order to jack up the height. I messed up though and lost a lot of progress, but I could have gotten a lot higher. |

so next time you play, try and preferentially place blocks horizontally in a position where they won't topple outwards easily (it's okay to discard blocks, your tower usually falls apart before you run out anyway hehe)

I think it has some logic to it -- sometimes I'd place the long skinny blocks horizontally to sort of "ensnare" pieces below it so that things don't fall out. In the long run, stability really gets you the higher tower potential. After a certain point though it seems optimal to just go spire-style, making long, skinny towers that will eventually topple, but such that you can spike at a record height. But you need a strong base to do it off of.

I got 724 in 99 blocks. The base is the key. I try to follow the horizontal theory, it seems to work. Also try to avoid making mini towers i.e. lots of S/Z/O blocks stacked on top of each other, so interleave the blocks as much as possible. Mini towers oscillate very easily and can weaken your structure immensely. Once I get to about 250-300 and there is any hint of oscillation beginning to occur, I begin to quickly thin out the tower and make a spire. You can easily make 1-2 block wide spires go as high as 300 units if your base has low oscillatory behaviour (my 724 was extremely strong, even with a 200 high spire it was not oscillating at all). If you guys have any more hints share, it seems I learn more about the games dynamics every time I play.
EDIT: Just scored 692 experimenting with some new techniques: ![]() Note the S and Z blocks at the bottom with arrows. If you can support these well enough you can have a tower base 10 blocks wide, which seems to add support if care is taken using the usual interleaving and horizontal blocks (also note I have I blocks covering gaps which seem not to detract from the towers' structure, gaps in most other cases do so). This is nowhere near optimal, as my tower thinned out greatly at 250 due to bad blocks. My weakness is still not choosing blocks wisely, as you can tell by my blocks remaining after my peak height. My spire went from the height you see in this picture to 692, could have been more if I was faster on my feet. I did get a tonne of consecutive O blocks which helped though. EDIT 2: A more optimised tower and personal best score. I wish I could get a screenie of the whole tower, its too hard to get one though without comprising score. The base is probably the most crucial part anyway: ![]() Note the J and L blocks work quite well for "buttresses" also. I slowly thinned my tower out up to about 350, and with the 10 wide base it was solid as a rock. I timed my spire quite well also, only having 8 blocks remaining after collapse. The tower only collapsed due to inbalance of the spire, so still not optimal. Absolutely no oscillations occurring even above 600 units. Rubix was mentioning clipping blocks by a pixel in chat, my technique is to place the blocks sideways if possible if I'm unsure. Using this technique you can even fix up blocks misplaced a half a block wide, although your tower usually doesn't react well to it after a while it seems.

Has anyone noticed that Nano War's tutorial level became Level 1 and everything got pushed up a level (now there's 15 levels)?

Has it affected the badges? I always worried about that game with badges. The creator has always indicated he planned to put more levels into that game.

I know for a fact that level 11 of Nano Wars changed... because people have asked me to re-do my guide. But I haven't. Cause I'm lazy.
Pretty annoying for an author to change his game AFTER it gets badges. Oh well though.

Got the Hard badge on StH3.
The last level seems more toned down than when I played it a few days ago in sandbox mode. I already knew to spam the space laser but it was a lot tougher than now. o_O *shrugs* It wasn't so bad once you play around with weapons and towers a bit to see what rapes. |
