I tried talking to Greg over AIM, convincing him to make the Adventure Mode completion an Impossible Badge, but his rationale was that he doesn't want to put Impossible Badges to any games that could be easily done with a walkthrough. I argued that a fair share of games on that site with Imp badges could be done with a walkthrough as they were (a few of my walkthroughs prove this anyway) -- furthermore, no walkthroughs currently exist for the game, and even if they did, they'd be really long and annoying to make/follow. He ended up succumbing to it being a Hard Badge, which, in my opinion, is woefully undervalued. I tried arguing that beating Beginner Mode for easy + medium badges would net 20 total points, and I'd further argue that Adventure Mode is easily ~3x harder to complete, meaning 20*3 = 60 points = being reasonable for Impossible Badging, and so I thought it was a very appropriate grading scheme. Alas...
Anyways, finally beat Adventure Mode. The last few levels are extremely rough (namely A-27 through A-30). A-29 is probably the hardest level, and I highly doubt many people are going to solve that thing on their own legitimately. The logical steps you need to understand for that level are pretty deep -- even if you know what to do, it's hard to execute. A-30 is just really annoying because there are so many BIG pieces, and the long horizontal wooden plank is a ruiner of worlds. A-27's opening is very hard too, and is much easier if you think it through first. For the later levels you really have to take advantage of what I call "liquidity banging" lol -- sometimes you need to replace a solid block with multiple, smaller blocks of the same type in order to achieve higher mobility in tight situations where inefficiency gaps otherwise occur (this is huge for A-27's opening, namely, as well as A-29). I *highly* advise you to plan out your bridge route for A-29 before you do anything. When I got near the end, I noticed a huge mistake I hadn't looked ahead for, and wound up reworking a huge portion of the level (hint: Be very careful of the vertical orange blocks. They can really only go in so many places in the end). Ended up with like 1100 moves on A-29 alone and somewhere around 3000 for A-30, lmao. It should definitely be an Imp Badge, but whatever. I'm re-badged, lol. BTW OMG I am tired of people saying 99 Luftballoons translates to 99 Red Balloons. Luft is NOT red! Rot is red! Have you guys ever heard of Luftwaffe?! Luft is freaking AIR. yea... you should convince him to make it Imp. trying to follow 1000+ move guides for 1 level is imp badge worthy by itself... have him check how many people have the hard badge tomorrow or after 3-4 days... and then try to rule out those who cheated to get it, if possible. or, you know the community will start complaining. does he at least realize that the game is REALLY REALLY REALLY hard and should be an imp badge, just that his reasoning for not making it a hard badge is the walkthrough potential?
beginner mode should be hard and not medium. and, rubix... you know you want to make a guide for this. lol.

You'd have to pay me 20 virgins to make a guide for that game -- not gonna happen
He said a bunch of people on his buddy list had beaten all the levels, but I am extremely skeptical. I don't think Beginner mode should be Hard -- I got through each level with absolutely no hiccups whatsoever, and very fast. Not hard at all. However, Adventure mode is easily an Imp badge, especially because of the time and effort required. I'm really disappointed because I just KNOW that like 80%+ of those who have the badge right now totally cheated to get it. Most Kong users are total idiots, and are likely not capable of solving some of those later levels. Oh well. Whatever. Last edited by MrRubix; 10-28-2008 at 01:06 AM.. |

I'm not sure about this, I'd say it is definitely borderline between hard and impossible. Personally I didn't find A-29 and A-30 very hard, just takes a lot of moves... If anything the start of A-27 was probably the trickiest. Beginner Mode is definitely not a hard badge though. Tass is just blatantly hungry for moar points now :P
The new Quick Pick feature on the front page is pretty nifty; certainly something I'll use in times of extreme boredom. Could be placed a bit better, however.

i think i'm just massively retarded when it comes to games like this... never been good with moving blocks around within a finite space. not my type of puzzle game. *sigh*. i have about 10 levels of beginner finished back in LA... will work on it more when i get home.

I thought A-27's opening was hard, but after connecting the greens, the rest of the level was easy. A-21 was actually pretty tricky as well. A-29 is hard because of the long pieces, coupled with the challenge of getting a sufficient number of greens to one side of the level AND with proper placement of the wooden planks beforehand (I call it the Peas and Carrots level, lol), and A-30 is plain annoying because of how freaking large the pieces are (that level took me the most number of moves). It's like trying to make sense of tectonic plates or something.
Meh, I think it's easily an Imp Badge. Stuff like Hexiom gets an Imp Badge... Pandemic gets an Imp Badge... etc, if stuff as easy as that can be Impossible, then something that makes me annoyed should at least be Impossible too, haha. |

Well I wouldn't have made a badge for beating the game with all three characters in the first place. It was horribly tedious and boring.
B9 and A1? Are you kidding or serious? B9, seriously just move crap out of the way and put the bridge together. Stuff some of the single-unit pieces along the midportion of the bridge in the central section so you have room to move crap around up top. What is possibly tricky about this level? A1 is almost self-explanatory. Last edited by MrRubix; 10-28-2008 at 04:52 PM.. |

I finally got the hard badge for BTD 3. I had 900 dollars left over still. I had 2 fully upgraded normal monkeys, 1 non upgraded super monkey, two fully upgraded rocket launchers, 1 fully upgraded tack shooter, and a Monkey beacon upgraded only to get the Monkey storm. I got to level 50 with 3k+ money, so i just lighty pinapple bombed until the ships came out, monkey stormed, then destroyed the ships and monkey stormed again. I am happy I finally got this badge after 3 lv 50 dies. XD

BTD3 is easy when you delegate most monkeys to aim at the Last target.

It's weird to me when I see money at only 900 when they win... I usually have around 6-9k at the end of the game.

Is there a reason why it says I only reached level 49 in normal yet I finished the game?
Also, once level 50 is completed, I'm done. Badge get = I move onto other things.

Has anyone been playing Shift 3? I'm trying to figure out how to get some of the newspapers (pretty much all of the achievements).

I haven't attempted A-30 yet, but it looks rather daunting. At least it appears to be logically structured. If only Greg had made AM Completion an Impossible Badge...maybe, just maybe, I would have some incentive to play the other levels. 30 points is hardly worth the effort. : | |

A-30 is more annoying than it is hard -- which sort of makes it hard. I just had to move a lot of pieces to solve the level (I think it was over 3000). I was probably nowhere near optimal, but I had to do a ton of cycling to get pieces where I wanted them to go. Other than that, it's more or less straightforward (it's all downhill once you hit the grays) A-29 annoyed me because of the late oversights that seemed to get me frequently (ie. realizing that I needed to put the long plank up higher to make room correctly, then trying to figure out how to get it to fit while taking the two square planks into account, and then I oversaw some really obvious facts about where I needed to put the orange pieces, etc).
I am probably just huffing paint though, or I am just really bad at this game. I usually dominate spatial/visual games with my cock while blindfolded and gagged, but for some reason, wasting thousands of moves on levels really bothers me because the optimal solution is likely so much better. I did A-29 in 9:39/852 moves, I really didn't find that challenging *shrug*. And yeah, A-30 is just laborious. I had something like 2500 moves. I wouldn't even dream of optimising these things though. I'll leave that to you, Rubix. :P
Additionally, I loved Escape from really boring island 3. I love bluntly stupid random humour. I also love badges in between challenges, even if it is a single easy.
