Play the Silent Hills, play Eternal Darkness, you can at the very least be left feeling quite tense and nervous if not afraid.

The only game to ever make me jump was Morrowind. I was in a remote location, in a cave. Sneaking around killing things. Music way up, darkness. Suddenly the screen shakes and I'm getting raped by an undead monster. Made me jump before killing it.
Never actually been scared by a game, but that's the closest I guess. To all those saying "how can you possibly get scared by a game". Try to take it less as a game and more as an experience. Really immerse yourself, try to get into it and you'll be more likely to jump or get scared from something happening. Rather than just going "oh yeah that's a coded event meant to scare me NICE GRAPHIX" |

The last time I got scared by a game was playing Silent Hill 4 two or three years ago (I don't remember). I was playing it in my uncle's Xbox and when nothing happens, I tend to expect something scary to pop up. Nothing happened except the music was tense and getting louder and louder, and that's what scared me, so I turned off the Xbox and started shaking.
Now, I can play F.E.A.R without showing any scared emotions (yet, F.E.A.R. isn't scary at all)

When I was a little kid...the ReDeads in Ocarina of Time scared me ****less. I remember seeing them for the first time so I thought I would go up and just kill them but then the paralized me and humped my face until I died...still ****ing scared of them because of that. The only scary games I've played would be Resident Evil. I will never forget playing RE4 for the first time alone in my basement at 1AM home alone when I run into a house with a chainsaw wielding maniac climbing up a ladder and I'm still pretty ****ty with the controls at this time...he screamed as he cut off my head and I let out a pretty loud shriek. Also the ****ing leach zombies in RE0, and the boss 'IT' in RE4 when you had to go though a maze while some huge ****ing mutant thing crawls around above the cage trying to slice off your head.

I am legend is a joke. That's not even remotely scary. I've never actually been scared by a movie, only video games.
I will say that The Iron Giant makes me tear up to this day.

I don't get how I am Legend could be scary unless you're 8 years old. Since we're still naming scary games, playing Condemned:Criminal Origins had me jumping out of my skin.

Well, in defense of rzr, Richard Matheson pretty much pioneered the concept in SF/Horror of a formerly supernatural enemy actually being explained by legitimate science. In the original, they were vampires, but he actually made the attempt to explain all of the usual things about vampires (repelled by holy objects, harmed by sunlight, drinking blood etc etc) using reasonable scientific justification.
It made things more frightening when readers considered that it was possible such a thing could actually happen, rather than some mystical "oooh it's vampires" concept. This is also why in my opinion, Cujo is one of Stephen King's most suspenseful pieces of writing. The fear and suspense are heightened by the knowledge that it could totally happen to you next. PS: If you want to see the most classically suspenseful movie in the history of the world, take a look at 'Duel' It's a 1971 Spielberg movie back when it was like "And introducing Steven Spielberg" (It was his first director credit ever) starring Dennis Weaver and actually, based on a short story by Richard Matheson (Which I didn't know until just this minute, cool) It's like 90 minutes long, has maybe 20 lines of dialogue, and is the most ridiculously suspenseful thing I've ever seen. Apparently none of you have ever seen Slither. Not criticizing anyone, it was a terrible movie. Acting sucked, but watching people get mutilated by giant slugs never gets old. It made me cringe.

I don't get scared by games, literally throw any game that you think is scary, I can tell you that I can play the game in the dark alone. My friends have tried to make me play many scary games, didn't even flinch once...

Zelda The Ocarina of Time was kinda creepy at the shadow temple...
but that was a long time ago. No game scares me, but blood does give me a sense of impending doom to me... so that's one reason I may be scared about something... but that's it. EDIT: yes, I am overusing certain things, but do not make harsh judgments for that reason. It's small and will be fixed as I go further along in my education. |
