I tried photoshop recently
So i've never used photoshop until recently. Its basically required at my school since im in web and graphic design. I've been messing around with new brushes and stuff...D=
For my 2nd day, i think my background turned out...decent D= Uhm, criticism is welcomed. Tips as well.

Re: I tried photoshop recently
It's alright, the brushes at the bottom, for ME, I think take away from the light beam, which (personally) you did the best job of, whether it was brush placement or you did it from scratch using line segments and zoom blurs or whatever.
The strokes at the bottom just don't seem correct when connecting it to the light source at the top. If one was to make it look better, I'd recommend the light showering straight down from the top of the screen, rather than towards the screen. I'm not very good with perspective lighting, so I'm not sure how the brush strokes could be fixed at the moment- playing around with different tones would do the trick, though. Other things: the cursive around the top- a colour or font more powerful would work better, in my opinion, because right now it doesn't blend in harmony with the location it's in. Lastly, the brush behind the dark and the beams on the right (the grungy looking stuff) would look better when it's also appearing on the left as well (not in the center, JUST the edges). Other than that, nice job, I see plenty of potential.

Very good. Keep working on combining multiple brushes and finding different combinations that look good together. Other things you could work on are finding good ways to include text without it looking out of place and shading.

I see what you mean with the beams at the bottom, i think i might darken them or make them a bit transparent. I do have grunge all over the page, its just harder to see on the left side, ill prolly end up putting new/add more over there. The swirls at the top (thats all i used >_>) are a bit hard to work with. When I didn't have them in there, the top looked way too bland and having them darker at the top, where the light beam doesn't reach gives a somewhat shading effect, they get lighter as they move down. IDK. Ima mess with some stuff you said still. Thanks =D Quote:
If it was for SM or something, yea i would. I was thinking about turning this into one, but then im like....no one wants to step a 5:45 drum and bass song. thanks as well :P

Re: I tried photoshop recently
I can definetly see how the top would of looked bland with nothing there. I'd just keep experimenting- theres a lot of things that could work-- just as an example, some dark grey clouds emitting a light glow would look nice- and it would also give the picture more emotional value-- because for me, the whole image would them remind me [abstractly] of an ocean sunset on a cloudy night.
But yeah, experiment. It's the very best you can do to expand you knowledge of what works in specific areas of a picture.

Re: I tried photoshop recently
looks great! I really love the light beams at the top, you did the best on that!
You inspired me to re-do my avy/bg I completely disagree, I think the brushes at the bottom fit in very well. They kind of remind me of like hands reaching up to the light beams. Last edited by makdaddy; 09-6-2008 at 01:27 PM.. |

You have to each individually buy it? That doesn't sound right. Anyways, Photoshop takes about 10 minutes to get anyways. |

@Mak, the brushes itself are okay how they are (structurally), but their connection (as I explained) isn't as realistic and visually pleasing in regards to it and the light beam- just visual flow deterioration from the light structure of white light behind something AND in front. And yeah, of course, we all do have our own individual tastes for art.

It's only your second day so I won't tear you (and your piece) apart. All I'm going to say is that it's very nice for a novice such as yourself.

Tear as you wish, like i said, criticism is welcomed. Its the only way i'll get better, if someone takes what i make and criticizes it till its been ran over by the fail train like 800 times

Re: I tried photoshop recently
It seems the three main elements don't blend it together at all. And there's nothing going on, but at the same time there's something willing to happen.. Kind of adds an unnecessary suspense which irritates the eye, I think.
But that's just my opinion.
