Default My Black Friday Shopping Experience: 2004

I didn't get much this year. There really wasn't much of anything I wanted. My friend and I decided to go to Meijer first (similar to a Wal-mart) and then to CompUSA. Meijer is open 24 hours a day. The sale started at 5 am. We got there at 4:45 am, and there were a ton of people there in the store already. I heard from one of the employees that they have to put the stuff out on third shift.

Everything I wanted was still there. They had dvds on sale for $11.77, but limit one of only one (not one of each). I had really wanted Aladdin, so I grabbed that. Then they had the best deal: buy any video game and get a second video game of equal or lesser value for half price. I only own a Gamecube and GBA, and my computer wouldn't run Half-Life 2 worth a crap. So I bought Metroid Prime 2 and Pokemon: Leaf Green.

Oh, and I get an additional 10% off on top of that because I used to work at Meijer. My team member card still works. 8) We have 6% sales tax so it's basically 4% off the price listed. In any case, I got Pokemon for around $8, Aladdin for $12, and Metroid Prime 2 for normal price.

We then hit up CompUSA because my friend wanted a lot of things there. We waited an hour outside. There were only a dozen people there at the time. When we got in, I was calm. Everyone else were chickens with no heads. I asked where the CD cases were, because they had one on sale that holds 208 cds for $9.99 ($27.99-$9 instant-$9 MIR). I went over to the area, found them. There were only 2 on the shelf. I grabbed both, one each for both my friend and I, right in front of another guy who was looking for them. So basically my friend and I were the only ones in the store who got these cases. Anyways, we found everything he wanted. Somethings you had to go to a service desk so they can send them to a cashier's line (I guess they were afraid of people stealing those items).

Oh, and a bunch of people were grabbing this intellimice, thinking they were the ones on sale. No you dumbfucks, check the SKU #. It doesn't match. The original PRICE doesn't even match. Yes, CompUSA was stupid and didn't put the $7.99 price by the right mice. In any case, I figured out which mouse it was and grabbed it for my friend. There was one left and it was on a different shelf level then where they listed the SKU and price. I just thought it was funny that many people were grabbing the wrong mice. I saw one guy with 3 of them... haha

During checkout, I payed with cash for some of my friend's items, because he wanted two of them. I told the guy I wanted to pay for my cd-case separately with my credit card and that I was paying cash for the other stuff. He rings up the other stuff, I pay it, I pull out my credit card and have it in my hand, he gives me the change, starts to bag up the cd case and other stuff and starts to grab the receipts. I non-chalantly put my credit card in to my pocket, he hands me the bag, and says to have a good day. My case was free apparantly.

We hit up McDonald's afterwords. I got a McGriddle. It was only the second time I've ever had one. The last time was a year ago coming back from Black Friday.... mmmmm good.

Last year we went to Best Buy at 1:45 am. It was a pretty fun experience. I made a thread about it too. The line was at CompUSA, when it opened, was the same length as what Best Buy was last year at about 3:30 am... lol

Where I live, there is a CompUSA and a Best Buy almost right next to each other. They are separated by a Linens 'n Things. And there is also a Kohl's.

But the Best Buy has like everything. It's effin' big!

The CompUSA is also Big. But it's mostly components and peripherals; there are much fewer games than at Best Buy.

Yeah, what's Black Friday? Isn't it just what they call the day after Thanksgiving? If so, why the hell have sales on it...

My Experience: This morning at Best Buy (An electronics store) there was like a 200 person line for paying. But...my parents stayed in line. I watched the clock, they spent 2 hours and 37 minutes in line....now how boring was that? Does anyone have A CLUE?

That's why you get there early, get in, get out. You still spend time waiting, but at least you get what you want. Last year at Best Buy, they handed out maps to where the sale items were located. That would have been very nice at CompUSA this year.

Black Friday is OBVIOUSLY the day after Thanksgiving sales. It's called Black Friday because on a day in 1869 there was a financial panic. So the sales and how frantic it is is a reference to that day.

Black Friday is the single biggest sale day of the year.

I didn't think it would be this packed. We arrived at about 40 minutes after the place opened and still, at least 500 people are in there. almost 3 hours in line and all there was to do besides stand around was play Solitare on a labtop. I almost went crazy.

Unforunately I didn't go shopping, I slept. Anyways, I haven't had much Black Friday shopping experience, I leave that up to my mother. She still doesn't go shopping on Black Friday because she can't handle the rush and panic or something (?) Yeah, anyways, I like to shop, but I have no car, and my mom took all my money and put it somewhere because she's gay like that. But we're getting two new TV's soon, and hopefully i'll be getting one for my room for Christmas and stuff.

People in general are idiots. Why go shopping on the single busiest day of the year when you could go a couple weeks later when they get a new shipment of stuff and it's not crowded at all? Is the only reason to wait in a 100 person line the incredible sales?

Dinnerroll, shut up.

Sales on Black Friday rule.

I got a 100 pack of CD-Rs for ZERO DOLLARS. Actually, I got four.

I went to Circuit City since Best Buy was going to be crowded (and it was...3-hour line times) and they had nothing I wanted. We collectively got a Radeon 9800 (cousin), 4 100-pack CD-Rs, 50-pack DVD+Rs, about a billion DVDs, and some random other stuff.

I bought 4 Gamecube games today and spent less than $100 collectively.

Anywho, we aren't into going to big sale rushes like that. My whole family has a general habit of being late and sleeping in, so we'd never make it before the crowds. I think my parents went a few years back and got us some Christmas presents, but that's the only time I can think of where any of us dragged our lazy asses out to shop.

Worked a closing shift. Wasn't too bad until my back started hurting and I didn't get a break, despite being promised one. =(

Some guy thought he'd be funny and ask me for some edible lotion for his friend... but he came off looking retarded. "They sell it at Spencer's, you know?" "So... why don't you go buy it at Spencer's?"

Haven't done any shopping. *cry*
