Yep, that's right, I'm finally on my brand new self built computer. And it is sooooo fast despite costing around $500 overall. Specs:
AMD Athlon XP 2600+ Corsair 512 MB PC3200 ram Abit NF7-S mobo Radeon 9600 video card 80 gig Samsung SATA HDD (I did 80 because I was short on money) NEC 8X DVD burner Win XP Home Lets put it this way: AIM installed in 5 seconds. XD I'll post pics later.

Get 512 more RAM... get the 64 bit Athlon... get another hard drive, preferably 120... video card should be fine...
If you think that's fast, I shudder to think what your old one was like. |

And yes, you do shudder to think what it was. 2.4 Celeron (128K CACHE~) with 256 MB PC2100. And integrated graphics with a 40 gig HDD. And my whole family uses it.

Congrats dude. How long ago was it when you said you wanted to build one? A year, I'm guessing, all the wait was worth it wasn't it?

I need a computer. I use the "family" computer because my dad thinks technology is the devil and we should be outside working all day every day and any more than two hours a day on the computer is too much and ok I'm done know.
I'm guessing those are nice specs but I don't know what half of it means.

I custom built mine last August.. so it's a bit outdated now...
Abit NF7-S MoBo Radeon 9800 Pro 1 Gig Ram (Corsair xms 2800s or something I forget) 80 GB Western Digital Athlon 2600+ (2.08 Ghz - sucks now but it's ok :P) LITE-ON LTR 8x Burner 19" NEC LCD Multisync (It's really nice ^^) Logitech mx510 mouse & logitech keyboard, logitech surround sound speakers, logitech quickcam (webcam) :O Cost me about $800-900 without the monitor which was about $500-550, but keep in mind this was well over a year ago.

I need a better video card. Problem is its a Dell computer, owned by the University, technically. So there is NO way I can install one legally.

512 ram is not enough for anything now. It's about the minimum requirement for new games.
80gb storage? You really need that boosted. I filled a 160 in two weeks. Considering RAIDing in a 300. ~Squeek |

hey guys ur rite he shuld upgrade his processor go buy a 64 bit 3200 and put it in a 32 bit mobo sure will be fun and will work huh guys
And IMO, you don't need a gig of RAM. Is it helpful? Sure. Is it worth the money? Yeah. Will you see performance boosts? Yup. But it's not neccessary yet. You can still get great performance with 512, it just depends on whether you're willing to plunk down the cash or not. |
