Also looked at Ema Skye's file. I mostly agree with trumaestro, but many later patterns he flagged I see as just fine.

m40 is a huge problem (agree with tru). Definitely half-turn, which wouldn't be so bad if there weren't also hands directly before it. If you leave the half-turn in, remove the hands right before it, and the pattern returns the player's direction, so that's fine. I see no difficulty in m44. Candles aren't hard at all, but if it's not the pattern you actually want there, then you should change it. m45-46 is fine. I see a crossover followed by a half turn, with a recovery jump. Perhaps alter the orientation of the jump to make it easier for the player (UR and UD could work, but you'd also have to change the pattern afterwards), or just change it to a single note. m49-50 is tricky. The first crossover is fine, but the second (ending in the freeze) looks like an awkward half turn, especially with the notes after that. I recommend a change. Also, I find m17-20 very awkward. And I don't like "hand-gallops" in general, but they're not too bad. All in all, it's okay. I don't like how almost all the steps go to just lyrics. Perhaps find some other part of the song to step? And remember when you think you're done, always double-check your patterns to make sure that: a) they'll work on pad, and b) they're what you want for representing that part of the music. Be careful about pad errors, and read Xiao's guide (link in trumaestro's post). PS: tru, try using WinRAR to unpack -Barista-'s files. It worked for me. I would judge, but they're keyboard and I'm tired and I think the little buzzing noise in Valse de Chaton made my left ear bleed. It feels really weird right now, anyways.

Only short reviews because I have a lot of homework to do. Decisive Battle! Saruin (-Barista-) I don't feel like assigning numerical values/5 (ok I lied) Gap is a bit off. Try 1.558 seconds. m2 - 32nds are actually 24ths. Check other 32nd parts to make sure that they aren't 24ths. m11 - jumptrill is weird You layered in the syncopated drums, but completely ignored the melodic synth that starts in m21 m29 - 16th jumps have no musical justification Not sure what happened at m31, but it was weird. m41 - again, synth m49 - see m29 m59, m63 - jacks are :ver wtf: m65 - 32nd isn't in the music, makes patterns weird. Also see m29. m70 - 32nds aren't in the music Guitar solos in general - not every arrow needs to be a minifreeze. Double check sync at m73 with the 64ths. freeze on second beat of m74 isn't there Double check sync throughout the guitar solos on a low music rate. If there's one place in a song like this you don't want to mess up with the sync, it's a guitar solo. "Bridge" between solos - jacks are still weird Double check m97/98 with the 32nds. Everything about those solos could be more pitch relevant. m109, m113 - see m29 m111, m115 - see m59, m63 m117 - see m65 Wherever whatever repeated - see wherever whatever repeated was first reviewed. You could maybe have ended the steps sooner, like maybe after the second solo or something. Valse de Chaton (-Barista-) (Oni chart) Still don't feel like assigning numerical values/5 Mines at the beginning spell out something, but I can't make it out and even if I did, I'm not sure it'd be forum appropriate. m8 - missed a 16th. Double check parts before m16 for missing 8ths and 16ths. I don't like mines, but whatever. Want more pitch relevancy throughout. You like minifreezes, don't you? Try to pull back a bit. The ones at m78 are pretty cool, though. Why didn't you keep stepping? If it were done right, it would be cool and fun. Last edited by trumaestro; 05-24-2008 at 03:34 PM.. |

w00t, just finished this simfile after a month or two of procrastination. Like I say in my description: This is one of the very few short songs by TMV that isn't an intro to another song.
It's extremely heavy on the amount of things going on at once, so it can be overwhelming if you don't find a couple solid lines to listen to, which also made it hard for me sometimes to decide which parts I should step to. I'm sure there are plenty of mistakes I made, this is only my 5th or so stepfile, i'm not sure exactly. I experimented with a freeze and double-time featured measure, you'll notice it along with a BG change for that short burst, so hopefully you'll enjoy it (unless you're playing a non-constant speed mod, in which case, say bye-bye to your combo). Edit: I was pretty tired last night when i finished, and i played it again and realized i completely butchered that solo at the end, so here's the fixed version: http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/...p?songid=27125 Constructive criticism and comments very much appreciated. Wax Something (Strider something)
Too lazy to really go in-depth. Double check gap. Double check the drums you step at the beginning for sync. m14ish - jumptrill is weird Jump usage starting m15 is inconsistent. You have some jumps on drums, but not all of them are such. m23 and like parts - Hands are odd. m75 - handstream is no. Double check for steppable sounds you missed. Choose a preview, too. They're nice. Sorry, but this is reeeeeeeeeeeally boring. It's mostly your song choice. Truth be told this genre doesn't really make for good simfiles most of the time. ------------------------------------ Physical (Chew something) (heavy chart) Sorry, but I'm not going to PM a review to you. Too lazy, etc. Also assuming this is for pad. Too easy to be a kb file. Gap off. Change to roughly -2.945 I guess. m4 has a crossover. Unless the player double-steps, there are very awkward patterns here. m8 - jack might need replacing. because of the freeze, the left/right pattern around m9 are crossovers. You may or may not want to change it. m19 - 8th after the jump is no. Might want to change all the jack patterns. m34ish - why the gallop patterns? maybe change Overall didn't follow the music much at all. Maybe work on that. ------------------------------------ [Suggestion] How about make people who want their files tested follow some sort of template or something when they post that they want it tested? It would make it easier to determine how to judge or easier to find the file or something. I guess something like this: [Song name] [Pad/keyboard] [Link] |

Hey trumaestro, could you please review my revised simfile? It's fixed most of the stuff you mentioned except for that part at m23, which I still don't understand.

use of jacks hold is great its pitch relevant only thing i didnt like about it is that it seemed like a copy paste file =/

time to review some files.
Happy Gang Bang [5 / 10] Steps are enjoyable, but it has a lot of issues. Basically steps are going with the main melody, but want more consistency for other instruments. PR is ok on some parts but wrong in some parts. At m4 minijacks(except for the 1st one) should be holds, this applys to all other similar parts. Most of green/purple notes are just offsync. Angel Eyes [5.5 / 10] Freezes aren't too inconsistent but most of them in this file are unnecessary, should be 64th or 192nd freezes at least. Considering the style of this file some jumps on 4th note aren't needed (in some parts you put jumps on almost all 4ths). In contrast, m41-52 have no jumps when apparently some notes should have (if you stick to not having jumps, need to cut all notes but vocal). m21- felt 16th stream starts too early, also rhythms on m24? m28- what minijacks are going (BDs) are a bit inaudible but ok. PR is overall ok. |
