i've been noticing my fingers have been having trouble going faster, so i thought i'd try finger weights. turn out professional ones are over 50 bucks which i am SO not paying for.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Get a whole bunch of washers and tape them to your fingers. (I'm totally serious. Although I don't do this, it's very simple, and would actually work.)

I've heard that some people tried to hone their skills on beatmania iidx with finger weights but I think that's going overboard. Just continue to practice normally and you'll be fine in due time.

Well, given that practicing will make you more accurate, idk how it would compare to speed vs using weights.
Think about it, a hitter in baseball uses a donut to weigh down the bat making it heavier and swings almost as hard as they can w/ a heavier bat. When they go to the lighter (real) bat, they can swing faster. (Usually...)

I guess if you train yourself to tap faster with weights then you will be faster without weights.
The question is whether you train faster with weights.

Never heard of people using finger weights for FFR or any rhythm game. Most people just get better through practise.
If anything, it'd be more of a psychological feeling that you moved faster.

Point is. How far are you willing to go just for a game? I'm sure it'll make your fingers stronger after time and it would inscrease how quickly your fingers hit the keys but what about return time; stream, jump stream and jacks seem impractical when using weights. I'm talking spread at least. Also, wouldn't this space your fingers out far too much? |

The problem with this is that there are usually nuances to getting better that some people notice and some people don't. This was the attitude with IIDX playing some time ago--very few people actually discussed gameplay techniques and whenever you talked about it the attitude was 'just practice'. However now the IIDX community is very conscious of techniques--much like the SM/FFR community is now. For me, my problem was that I used too few fingers when playing IIDX and I learned that I should have had an entirely different technique far too late in my development of skill. If you don't talk about technique and ways to get better beyond just playing you may miss the opportunity to do something that will give you an edge before it's too late.

At seeing notes, speeding up,proper diet(food groups),but for physical reflexes, massage your fingers to allow circulation for endurance, try to play with your hands not "pinching".
(bent arms in an angle, makes you lose alot of bloodflow),and just really, what i use, paper weights or paint cans as well, kinda trippy, but imma getting better .Or...just keep playing, practice makes perfect... Cheers |

I never tried using weights on my fingers.
But from what I can relate to; When I started playing the drums in real life, I started out using the heaviest rock sticks available -- played with them for about 2-3 years before switching to normal sticks...It's sooo much easier. I can play probably 4 times as fast as before. So for sure, give weights a shot, i'm sure the outcome will be substantial.

I've overheard friends discussing using finger weights to improve trilling and jacking for piano, so why shouldn't it work for FFR? If you can find a better deal, I suggest that you go for it.

I've never heard of anyone using finger weights before. Not that bad of an idea.

(to everyone else) I just bought some sinkers for fishing, some cloths, some super glue, and started working on finger weights. I've been playing for well over 4 years, so the arrow reading isnt an issue. As for speed, I seem to always hit my peak at 200 bpm for stream, so I thought of ways I could increase it. Also, something I tiddled with the other night: I had a bunch of rubber bands left over from work, so I thought "Hey, why not use this like resistance training?" and for the most part, I could tell I was working the muscles that I use for FFR.

I used to peak at 200bpm, but after switching to spread, my max speed rose to around 280, no finger weights required.
But heh heh, hey, whatever works for you.
