A few things:
Directional influence. I'm not sure exactly what this entails. For people who have played me, do I use this? Honestly, based on the descriptions I've heard, this sounds like something everyone does, so I'm sure I must be misunderstanding something. Secondly, I'd like to ask a little advice. I was playing some free for all last night, and I noticed that I was doing really ****ty; didn't win a single match. Getting my butt kicked by folks that I am pretty sure I would be able to win against 1 on 1. Definitely at least having a win rate higher than 0, which is what I got during our set of battle royals. So my question is this: is there anything I can do to increase my chances of winning these sort of matches? Is the only real tactic to it to focus on those with the highest percent? It was a stock match, so killstealing wasn't even an issue there. It doesn't really matter, I suppose, but it sucks to think you're at least a little skilled, only to get brutally destroyed in a different match format. Third, if anyone is up right now, I think I'll be up for a few games. Post here or PM me. I'll probably in bed within an hour or so if I get no responses though.

Here's some advice. For all of you. Try shield grabbing more. Become more familiar with dodge button and learn it's uses and advantages. If you throw someone, chances are there's a combo that can follow it depending on the throw you use. Pikachu for example, down throw to up tilt to up tilt again to up smash and then throw your own little thing in there. That's like 50% right there. Don't be so impatient. Your opponent with his 110% over there needs just one forward smash to die yet your getting your ass handed to you and he's catching back up from the lead you had. Just because you can kill him with one attack does not mean you should incessantly go for that attack or go all out offensive to try to kill him. It's at times like these that matches can turn around or that your opponent can find a weakness in you. So many times have i found out that just by being patient and letting you guys come to me that i'm able to 3 or 4 stock you guys easily. Just be patient and keep your cool and you'll notice the game will go by a lot better. Also, there are a lot of you that forget moves that your character has that has more priority or speed over than the others. For example with you afro. I've never seen you use neutral A in the air. With percentages around 110 or so it can kill quite easily and it's one of pikachu's fastest attacks. The majority of what i've said goes for all of you except manti. Only a little goes for you :P.

I said before that I've had trouble using neutral A, because if I need to use it, it's easier for me to move laterally and attack with up, down, or the direction I'm traveling. I've started working it in a little, but yeah, typically when you're thinking I should be doing a neutral, I'd probably just use down or right/left, depending on what I'm trying to do with it.
EDIT: oh and about grabbing: I intentionally avoid grabbing a lot, because my timing isn't good enough, and I almost always end up missing and getting ragdolled around for it.

But shield grabbing doesn't require any timing. If someone hits you, you shield, which case you'll immediately grab and more than likely get them unless they dodge or roll away in which case you do the same thing back. Neutral A is extremely easy to implement into any game style i don't understand how it could be troubling.

I understand what you're saying about the neutral A. About shield grabbing. All it takes is practice and it's SO worth it.

Korny, you on?
I think I may as well try a challenge with you. I usually don't sheild grab because samus has the worst throw ever. if you miss you're screwed.

Yea shieldgrabbing is better with certain characters. Sure it's important but some characters have ****ty grab range to shield grab effectively and huge delay if missed.
Like Link and Samus have horrible delay if missed, but the there range is great, so it's probably still useful. It's amazing for characters like D3 and Falco. I think it depends on the character if shield grabbing is a must for your game. For most chars it is tho. |

Well those throwers don't count because there are only 3 of them that it's unadvantageous for and they should know on their own it's obviously unadvantageous.
I'm at richhhhhards so i can't play online right now because the connection here is horrible. I don't know when i'll be able to play online in a good situation but when i do i'll play you if you're challenging me. Last edited by korny; 06-1-2008 at 01:48 PM.. |

to manti: samus's up throw is surprisingly decent. not sure about her down throw and her horizontal throws do suck. also seeing me against gray, is there anything you think i should do more or anything i am doing too much?
also manti if you wouldnt mind getting on and playing against me some one-on-one and giving me some constructive critisism that would be awesome.

If you were knocked straight up you would want to DI left or right, thus altering your trajectory so you don't hit the top KO as fast. Some may think this isn't important. But DI'ing is extremely important, not only does it save you from potential combos at low percents it also lets you play defensively. A big aspect of brawl. Want to see how much DI can change where you character is? Go into training throw that bomb that makes that huge growing explosion and jump into it. At first don't press anything. Then kill yourself and do the same again. But this time when you inside the explosion smash up on the control stick and cstick. The cstick isn't just for spamming smashes. Imagine how many stocks you will save just from reading this information. Last edited by Shamo0; 06-1-2008 at 10:30 PM.. |
