Mysterious Contest!
Tune in to the radio station marked contest whenever it's active. Check out my profile. What does it mean? The first to figure it out will win some goodies.
By goodies, I mean some really good stuff that I'm keeping secret until a winner is announced. But anyone who gets this will really deserve this. This puzzle is worthy of MrRubix. All you need to solve this is the info in my profile and the information from the audio. Last edited by Coolgamer; 05-18-2008 at 07:39 PM.. |

Full audio file for the contest can be found here, if for any reason the radio fails.

Re: Mysterious Contest!
Well, I have all the numbers. Tried to relate them to scores/ranks/song numbers and the set of numbers in your profile. I'll examine things more thoroughly when you give clues. Right now, the numbers mean nothing to me. =P

Re: Mysterious Contest!
Official clue: You don't need any extra values from FFR scores or anything like that.
The broadcast (or downloaded) numbers plus the numbers in my profile are enough, technically, to solve the puzzle. You just need to know what to do with them. |

Re: Mysterious Contest!
can we have an exact time the next clue will be released if no one guesses it by then?

Re: Mysterious Contest!
The process into making a good puzzle/riddle is to think whether a person who has no instructions/directions can solve it.
We have no instructions, but we have a lot of numbers. This contest is failing by the second.

Re: Mysterious Contest!
Hint: There's probably a reason this contest was originally broadcast on the radio. That might be a clue in itself.

Re: Mysterious Contest!
Is there significance in that numbers were repeated twice in the audio file?

Re: Mysterious Contest!
Well the # of numbers iterated in the audio = 2 * the length of the profile numbers
I don't know if this was intended to make it easier to write things down, or if the repetition is actually part of the clue. If it's not part of the clue, then the numbers in the profile match up perfectly with the audio numbers, meaning we have to somehow fuse the two strings together to get something meaningful. So far my usual gauntlet of dual-number fusions aren't yielding any sort of useful data. Taking things twice over and converting differentials to letters gives me edaenodknewbedceatfcaaldetcom. Are we to assume these numbers are actually in the correct order? My guess is that each string is actually composed of a series of two-digit numbers that need some form of base conversion and then figuring out the differential and converting it to a-z via 1-26. But I am too lazy to figure out what the conversions are and all that stuff assuming it's the right track. Too lazy to go on without more clues lol

Since you've figured out that much, then yes, the repeats are meaningless. Here's your next hint: |

Re: Mysterious Contest!
The picture doesn't say much, I mean yeah each string -> each tower, some linking of the two. Determining the nature of the link is the hard part.
Ok I figured out most of it, but the algorithm isn't quite right. Turns out it wasn't luck -- the lower bound for your conversion still holds true for certain intuitive cases. Just need to find a rule that's universal. I think the "know"/"knew" part is correct, and the ending is definitely "dot com" Why is 24-19=15 but 48-33=15 too though?

Re: Mysterious Contest!
I wonder what you'd call a broadcast of digits?
The internet, once again, is your friend. OH, a word of advice. Two minus nine does not equal negative seven. Last edited by Coolgamer; 05-19-2008 at 02:13 PM.. |

Re: Mysterious Contest!
Woot, finally decoded the thing. The Cherry Ripe clue was especially helpful. It all uses a one-time pad cipher that utilizes modular subtraction. I'm honestly surprised I didn't try modular subtraction earlier, since it's something I'm aware of already. The reason why some of my message was correct is because it wasn't luck, but rather the modular alterations weren't required for certain number pairs since no carryover was required (ie. 7 minus 2 is 5, but 2 minus 9 is not -7 but rather 12 - 9 = 3, and this applies for every digit for each pairwise grouping, and then the two are taken together and transliterated into letters. .
Thanks for the hints coolgamer That was a decently tricky cipher, lol.

Yes, Rubix wins.
He shall be receiving a FFR subscription, which he has chosen to save as a prize for his tourney, a mess of high-quality music from artists including DJ Sharpnel, and special access to all my non-public simfiles, testing and completed. All in all, a good bit of swag. |
