WoW Gold Farmers Arrested
Is it necessary to arrest? What's the big deal with buying gold? I pay and I get enough for my epic mount without having to countless hours on farming gold. it's ok for both of side. Why stop? What need to stop is that the dev should stop to make the game grind, a time killer a life killer. |

Not necessary to arrest them.
If people want to buy money, let them do it. After all, the WoW Farmers DO pay $15 a month right? =.,=; |

Think of it this way.
The WoW TOS (Terms of Service) basically says that anything in-game is property of Blizzard, if I remember correctly. You essentially "rent" it from them when you play. It's like a furnished apartment (Meaning that the person you're renting it from already has some things there for you). Now these people are basically taking virtual money (Which is part of the game and therefore Blizzard's "property") and selling it for real money. It's the same concept as taking a stove that your landlord owns and selling it to some schmo on the street corner. It's in your apartment, sure, but it's not actually yours. Plus, buying gold is a good way to kill the game's economy. So you may as well stop it at its source one way or another.

Oh man, i almost thought you were saying from the thread title that your world of warcraft girlfriend got arrested. But yea... the gold is part of blizzards company. Selling it is selling something that is taken from them.

I personally sell gold in various online games, but the thing is it's their terms of service you are breaking, no 'punishable by law' laws are being broken. IMO the worst thing they should be able to do is ban accounts, however they've overstepped boundaries by stating that they are 'ruining user experiences' which amounts to what, harrassment? or something? (don't remember how that case panned out...) The charge for these guys probably had nothing to do with the gold they were collecting but will have something to do with ruining other peoples game. |

That is the usual legal defense: "I'm selling X hours of my labour to them" but you're still trafficking in goods that don't belong to you, if you actually make a flat exchange of gold to them.
If you logged onto their account and farmed for them in exchange for cash, you'd have a good defense on that, but when they pay you money and you give them gold, you're saying "They're actually paying for the time it took me to steal this property of Blizzard's" Pro Tip: Selling things you don't legally own is fraud. |

So then selling accounts would be illegal to my those means right?? If true, why do i keep seeing accounts being sold on ebay and other sites and Blizzard not doing anything about that? Plus, thats all the way in China, not here in the US.

I don't see why blizzard just doesn't take this idea and use it themselves. I mean, they could hire people specifically for farming gold, even though they don't need to, and the legally sell it to the people who play. Blizzard gets the money and you get the gold you were initially going to get, just legally.

I laughed heavily when I saw this story. What gets me is why the hell are people willing to pay real money for something that only exists in a game? I guess some people are just so ridiculously lazy...

It makes rich people that are rich in real life rich in the game too. I'm not jealous or anything, but it's a game, play it. Why bring something thats outside of the game into it =/ Sure it seems fair for paying someone for doing something like a job or something, but the experience is best when you actually achieved it yourself.

I can't believe this.
It's a goddamn game. I have a hard time believing that they managed to get the police involved. Sounds fake to me.

police is really involved, the user agreement contract that you accept when you install wow strictly forbiddens you to earn using wow, in this case selling gold involving REAL $$$. this happened also in lineage 2 and in a other MMORPG

it just means you are not good enough to do it alone, but after all there are already too many noobs on MMOs, one more won't be worse
