Proof that Spread takes no skill
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ujwv_PeFcQw
(Video was JUST finished uploading, may take a few mins for YouTube to get it up. The replay is here) - I'm a full-time index player, and always have been. - I played spread for this - ...on CIA Rave (A slightly "anti-spread" song, so people tell me) - ...I played it on right-scrolling (Topmost row is the up arrow, 2nd row is left, 3rd is right, bottom is down... it's not simply "up-scrolling, rotated 90°", as many would assume) - ...and I didn't practice this (Had a few trial runs to figure out how the hell right-scrolling worked, but that's about it) And hey, I passed this big bad song, on a rigged playstyle, hitting the targets in a totally different order than I've ever played, without having a clue about the spread playstyle, nor being used to the scrolling whatsoever. And passed. With over 100 combo. Spread is rigged. If you want to show true skill, play FFR with your tongue... this spread stuff is for sissies. (Note: This is an OBVIOUS troll. While the facts (Playstyle, scrolling, being full-time index, not having a clue about spread, etc) are true, I'm just using this to poke some fun. If you take my "spread is rigged" remarks seriously....... well, just don't, lol. Everyone can choose their own playstyle. Spread is fine =P) (Note2: Really though, try to play something on right-scrolling... it's tricky as hell, lol) Edit: The above two notes were put in with the original message. Anyone below who missed them, missed them on their own :P Edit2: However, gonna put it in nice red bold letters, just so people don't steam up too much :P

Re: Proof that Spread takes no skill
Yes, spread may be easy, if it's standard. But try playing pettanko. Or an extremely jacky song. Or trills with one hand.
Index looks cooler though. It's fun to be able to say, "Hey, check this out. I'll beat this song with only two fingers!" XD

Re: Proof that Spread takes no skill
I'm going to answer this in a serious fashion.
Spread is more efficient than, say, index, because it generally involves the use of 4 fingers, whereas index involves the use of 2 fingers. 4 fingers/4 keys > 2 fingers/4 keys If you wanted to make your statement more accurate, you could have said "Anyone whose dominant position isn't spread is just increasing FFR's difficulty."

Re: Proof that Spread takes no skill
Lol yup he did. Poking fun or not, this thread is pointless and a 100 combo on CIA rave is nuB.
-A random crappy player.

Re: Proof that Spread takes no skill
haha, I have only ever played spread, and i can match this score on index. Once you are good at one, converting becomes much easier.

Re: Proof that Spread takes no skill
Index is dying. Stepmania has gotten to the point where it is not even possible to index for some decent scores, and so FFR might will get to that point. Spread is not for sissies, index is for pansies who want to get crap scores on index and tell the world "Hey I indexed this song, that must mean I'm good".
There's nothing wrong with spread or index right now, but be aware. |

Re: Proof that Spread takes no skill
The point, in my opinion, is to be able to switch between four-finger and two-finger play. Most songs can be handled with four fingers, but for fast trills and jacks, being able to switch to your strong fingers on index is ideal

Re: Proof that Spread takes no skill
I still do that, when I know the song I'm playing, like vertex and SP, I'll switch. But I use my middle fingers when I play index:P

Re: Proof that Spread takes no skill
Nah, 3-finger is more effective than index, so combine it with spread.

Re: Proof that Spread takes no skill
ideal setup = four-finger <=> index switchoff
not debatable lol |
