Media Violence
Whats left? Honestly.
The more I hear about things like the V-Chip, locking channels out, etc. The more I think about how we are posioning the minds of our youth, but are we also posioning our own minds as well? The more violence, swearing, sex, etc. People see on TV, the more it become socially accepted. The scary part is when one hears someone as young as 9 years of age telling one to "Fuck Off". Its getting lower and lower, age barriers are breaking, and its not a good thing. Thoughts? Feelings? Maybe Even Some Opinions?! Post Up :P |

meh, America has gone to hell. I've come to acknowledge that, but I don't accept it. People need to grow some brains.
Atleast we have freedom.

Solution:
Stop watching Television. It's a horrible device that shows you crappy shows, advertisements, and news you didn't care about in the first place. There is not a single good show on TV that you couldn't just download commercial-free. ~Squeek |

Not a good solution. You see swearing and all kinds of stuff on the computer, too. These things make up society today. The only way to get away from them is to get away from society. The only real solution is to lock yourself up in a little room all by yourself without any source to the outside world...you would probably go insane, too...=/

Have you ever seen me swear at all? I'm sure if you do a search for all posts by me and read them all that you will not find a single curse word typed by me.
The only real solution is to have the free will to choose whether or not you want to be influenced by something. TV makes that really hard. The net is also a place full of influential things, but if you lead a lifestyle of good moral, you'll come out just fine. ~Squeek |

My thoughts on censorship is that it shouldnt be corporate America's job to decided what we should be allowed to see. I think television should be able to say whatever they want, nudity shouldnt be such a big deal (ex. "OMG, THE GUY FROM NYPD SHOWED HIS ASS!!!!" "HOLY SH*T, I SAW A LADY'S BOOB DURING THE SUPERBOWL!!!!"), violence..well, the violence is fine the way it is. But basically, cable companies should be allowed to do whatever they want.
If you dont like it, dont watch it. If your parents dont want you to watch it, then they should block it. I've seen a lot of nasty things thanks to the wonders of the internet...not much really "shocks" me anymore. I've seen people have their heads cut off, people being exicuted with an Ak-47 at point blank range, a man having his feet cut off by piano wire, and all kinds of perverted sexual acts. And I dont I am any more violent/perverted than I was to begin with. Once again, it is up to the parents to raise their children, not TV. Stop blaming TV, Video Games, and music for all your child's mental problems, its your fault you dont know how to teach your children the difference between right and wrong. |

After restricting somthing, if a child sees one of his peers doing it (ex. Watching Violent TV), it will only motovate him to ask his parents why hes restricted from watching it..Etc. Etc. The parents might not cave, but then the child will be even more motovated to see what hes not supposto see. Peer pressure is rabid in early age..If one kid thinks somthing is cool, he'll influence other kids to think its cool too. Its a parenting problem too, but sometimes you just cant help it. Somthing slips by that you restricted. All parents have to pound into their childrens heads that what they seen was bad, and not all parents do that. So why not just eliminate it at the source and stop media violence alltogether? I mean, honestly, our (At least my) generation is almost completely "immune" to violence and sex, and its obviously not a good thing. Would eliminating media violence bring crimerates down and ultimatly make america a better place to be? (EDIT: Oh and my ideas might seem a little disconnected, I gotta go to work and have no time to proofread ) |

I think anybody who thinks kids get desensitized from TV or video games should be strapped to a chair, shot several times, then evicerated while they're still alive. That'll show the fucker.
Edit...just realized this is critical thinking, meaning I have to think...dammit. Seriously though, Jewpin is right- that's what I've been saying all along. Media Violence is just a term people can pin real life violence on. Video games get the worst rap by far- yet the media always fails to mention the rating system put on games to keep them out of impressionable hands. If they play it anyway, then it's the parents fault for not recognizing that their kid is enjoying Postal 2 a little too much. You can go on and on about how it desensitizes them and makes them want to kill, hell, I've heard people say it teaches people how to kill. Yeah, and because I play Flight Simulator, I can fly a Concorde, too. |

I think that some people just need to grow up and learn the difference between reality and tee vee.
I do understand that there are some mental problems that may prevent that... if that's the case they need someone to keep extremely close watch on the person. |

Yah qually, they also need to learn how to tell the diffrence from like the music and tv and movies. Music examples: Eminemn, 50 Cent, and her in kansas the are banning radio from playing like blink182 and stuff like that because it has disrespect to women and vilonce twords them. And games, certain countries (no names) are also banning games such as manhunt because it is so gruesome. Thats just my oppinain so dont take it personaly.

In Europe and most of Asia, nudity is accepted. Majority of the voilent video games come from Japan, and violence on television is not censored there. The most violent and disturbing movies I have EVER SEEN have all come from Japan (Audition, Ichi: The Killer, Dead or Alive, Battle Royale, etc.) But crime in Japan isnt that bad. At least not as bad as the US. Though, showing sex organs in Japan is not acceptable (even the porn is censored), and Japanese men, for the most part, are very perverted, thanks to censoring.
Dont prevent kids from watching violent shows, because like Powerless, that makes them want to watch it more, but watch the show with them, and explain to them that violence is wrong/ sex is only for mature folk/ dont swear because it isnt polite/etc. |

Wars, drugs, random violence, and rape were around long before television, radio, or the telegraph were ever dreamt of.
If anything, every new generation is more like the old ones. |
