Default Windows Explorer, crashing.

Okay well, it has been happening recently. Windows Explorer will just shut off by itself. The first time there was the Windows XP error messege saying Windows Explorer needs to close. It has closed about 6 other times since then without any warning. I have Panda for anti-virus and spyware, I don't see whats wrong. I am guessing there may be somthing corrupted in the songs in my stepmania. Windows explorer seems to crash when I listen to stepmania songs. Forcing me to press control+alt+delete and clicking restart or "run task" and entering explorer.exe. I need to fix this problem, but I am not that good with computers. Can anyone help me with this?

*EDIT* My Internet Explorer is also starting to crash now and seems to be going slower than usual.

Well, it is hard to find information about what is going on with my computer. Therefore I thought very smart people could help me with such a problem. Moderators can move it if they think it's necessary.

Reformatting always solves problems. Backup your data and just clean slate that HDD.

I would like to get it fixed without having to reformat if I could. I would like reformatting to be my last resort. Anything else that could be wrong? Programs to download? I can survive through this mess it's just better to get it fixed asap. Many events coming up so I need full usage of my computer.

What are you using for a virus scan? I suggest using AVG or Avast, because Norton doesn't find shit.

Spazzbite: I would never use Norton because like you said, it never finds anything. I used HouseCall the first time which I think actually put a bit of spyware on my computer which Panda found and deleted. The second time I used Panda ActiveScan. Both found nothing.

Deposition: I don't think we are having the same problems. That thread doesn't help much. Although I will look further into the bug reports.

I will get my brother to look at it a little bit later as of he is very good with computers. If anyone else has any other suggestions on what to do, please post.

I have win98 and the same thing happened to me. Sorry to say, but I ended up having to reinstall windows (at least you probably won't have to reformat). That fixed it. Also there is a new adaware out if you don't have it, it is called adaware se personal, and it is much better than the old one.

Ahh My Faveroite Program

HIJACK THIS!

(Yeah, I'm Serious)

http://www.spychecker.com/program/hijackthis.html

Read It, Download It, Use it.

If its not somthing that executes on startup and all of the spychecker stuff dosent work then reformat.

(Oh and for the love of god dont check everything and "Fix It"..this program shows all programs, even critical ones on startup..so make sure you have an idea about what your deleting..otherwise post the log and I'll tell you what to wipe)

The same thing happens to me too. But I need to reformat anyways, so I probably will do that.

Adaware 6.0, Norton, McAffee, and VirusScan (if you are from the University of Michigan :P) it. If it's still buggy, Get Mozilla or Opera.

Word of advice - do not install Norton and McAffee at the same time. They don't play nice together. I installed McAffee on this computer after I got it, unaware that Norton was still installed (I thought my dad uninstalled it). I ran into a whole slew of problems, because every time my computer loaded up, it locked up. I eventually figured out the problem and went into safe mode so I could disable everything to go back into normal mode to uninstall it, but it wasn't fun.

Moogy: Cleared cache.

Staroceanfreakx: Very nice! The new ad-aware found a lot.

Powerless: Great program. It is a little confuesing as to what to delete, but it was still very useful.

QreepyBORIS: Ad-aware SE ^_^ done. Norton sucks. MacAffee I don't prefer to use. Virus scan, done it twice.

Anyways, I think the ad-aware found many harmful files. Also HijackThis. It has seemed to stop crashing. I can fully listen to all of my 300 stepmania songs now. If it crashes again, I will probably just be so pissed off and frustrated that I will just reformat. Thanks everyone for your help.

The first time I used Adaware 6.0 (this is AFTER having 5.something for a very long time), it found 537 pieces of spyware. Thank god for the "select all" feature.

Hehehe

For some reason I get insane amounts of spyware every now and then.

The first time I checked (about two months after I got my new computer), between Adaware and Spybot, they found around 2400 files.

A few months ago, they found just under 1700 files between them.

And recently, they found about 400.

Yeah, I don't know.
