And Daigo was sitting calmly the whole time, his hands barely moving with each attack. And Arch, screw you. DDR =/= Street Fighter. In DDR the arrows are preplanned, SF nothing is guaranteed. It's like aperson said, x5 Sudden, but with super shuffle, so you have NO clue when things are coming. And yeah, the announcer sucked. From my experience, announcers for gaming competitions are stupid like that 99% of the time. Just watch Arena...

This announcer wasnt that bad.
I think he was referring to the reaction from the crowd more than the victory when he said "its madness!" And Id just like to add one last thing.. Another reason I love this video is that they play the last match on my favorite stage. The background music on that stage OWNS you. |

Izzy, thats why no one will ever accept you in society. Because you have never played Street Fighter.

The reason I say this is, the move he used is pre planned, correct? I mean in the sequence it does stuff? I don't know much about fighting games at all =\ |

I'm pretty sure that the moves are not pre planed ( that kicks combo was at a constant rate but I dont think where the kicks are going to land is predetermined).. I think 5x, hidden, shuffle is a good analogy considering how fast he had to react to which area (hi, mid, low) he needed to parry..

Well I'm not going to debate you on that but...
5x is such an overstatement that you would not even believe. It's very hard to read anything well on 5x shuffle, unless the song is like <130 bpm, not even MENTIONING 5x shuffle sudden. This coming from someone who actually PLAYS songs on sudden shuffle =\ I'm just going to assume you meant sudden and not hidden because on fast speeds hidden makes no difference. |

Special moves like that are not pre-determined. The amount, the speed, and the place of each impact is determined by the person who activated the move. In other words, you can't just press "back back b!" and have a cool move bust out. I'd say 3x sudden shuffle is a good analogy.

Thats why it is so freaking amazing. Watch the video again and see how long he has to react to each hit. Quote:

That's true, i think the analogy is closer with 3x than 5x, but it's still damn hard to play the pro's in SF.

It's irrelevant what analogy you use to compare it to stepmania. You could say C12,000 STEALTH and it still would be too low to match this. This is a total of 16 parries of differing heights during a super combo with 1% life remaining. First of all, a parry isn't as easy as hitting a button. It's a direction and two buttons that change for wherever the hit is occuring. Stepmania is one button per arrow and you get a long time to see the arrow before it gets to the top.
PUT IT THIS WAY. If you can even pull off a single REGULAR parry in street fighter, you're almost godlike. Nobody ever even tries because if your timing is off by that tiny fraction of a second, you're vulnerable for the rest of the combo. The analogy for this in SM is if any of your arrows are a Perfect and not Marvelous, you get an E. ~Squeek |

Parry's aren't easy, but I wouldn't say that by being able to do them regularly, you're god like. I mean, yeah, the moves are pretty quick when you use light and medium attacks, but if you play enough street fighter, you just get an idea of what attacks are going to be used after watching your opponent enough, and you know where they will land. The parry in that video is just ridiculous, but parrying here and there, maybe 5 times each round isn't too hard. If you play Street Fighter 3's 1p mode a lot, you'll have parrying down due to the mini game with the kid that throws the basketball. I forget his name, unfortunately.
