I just got finished doing homework. It was only 3 problems (math) but it was kinda time consuming.
What kinds of things are you learning in school? How much time do you spend on homework/studying? Math - a quick unit on finding the volume and surface area of three-dimensional shapes (doing that for cylinders takes long!) P.E. - we're playing floor hockey (can't play because of my arm ![]() World Geography - a quick unit on Economics Orchestra - reading a book because the concert just happened, but a group of composers (which includes me ) get to work on their music compositions for submission to the competition (a mouthfull)Science - nothing, we just completed a unit on plate tectonics Language Arts - Ummmm... I'm never sure exactly what I'm learning in language arts... Academic Stretch - designing and building skyscrapers (my group's sucks) |

U.S. History - We just finished covering the Civil War and are heading into Reconstruction. I don't do any of my homework at home for this class, since I have an 80-minute study hall the period before. I just do it then, and it usually takes 30-45 minutes, when it's assigned. Most days I don't have any.
AP Calculus - Getting into extremely rudimentary integration, while studying the Mean Value Theorem and using derivative concepts for optimization*. My teacher never checks homework, so I just do the problems I need to do to understand the concept. Can take anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour. Naval Science (Yes, I'm NJROTC) - We just finished up a unit on chart plotting today. Easiest thing in the world. No homework. Chemistry - Currently in a unit about Avogadro and the mole concept. We took a quiz on percent composition of compounds today, through the use of molar mass. Homework takes about 20 minutes. American Literature - We just finished reading Death of a Salesman. I don't understand why it's hailed as such a good play; it was so boring, predictable, and uninspiring. Waste of time. Not too much homework, generally just vocabulary stuff which I can do in 15 minutes. Phys. Ed/Health - We do different things each day. I think we're going to end up climbing our horizontal rock wall again next class. Spanish IV - Learning clothing items. Which I learned in Spanish I. Honestly, the only new thing I've learned this year is the future tense, but it looks like we're going to finally start learning part of the subjunctive tense soon. I'm looking forward to that. Homework is rare, as most times the teacher wants to check to make sure we're doing things right in class. * - Studying the implications of certain values of the first and second derivative of a function. For instance, if the first derivative of f(x) at some point c is zero, and the second derivative is positive, then there is a local minimum at x = c. In terms of optimization, you can model a situation with a function, find its derivative, and set the first derivative to zero, and solve the equation to find the x-value at which that critical point occurs, and use the second derivative to determine whether it's a maximum or a minimum. By doing so, you can find out what you have to do to maximize or minimize something. For instance, if you want a can to have a volume of G with the lowest amount of surface area possible, you can find the derivative of the surface area function, set it to zero, and solve to find out where it minimizes, in terms of its radius and height. I have honors classes... Blah.
Algebra 2: Something about roots and zeros. It's really bad, I don't understand a thing. French 2: I think the future tense. English 2: Just finished Julius Caesar. I liked it. US History: Just finished learning about World War II. Biology: Learning about Meiosis. Pretty easy, I guess... Gym: Weight Room.. I just bike all the time. Oh and I lift 12.5 weights usually.. Piano: Learning some songs... It's lame, sorta. I don't like the pianos we have. Marketing: We just finished a chapter, but it's about a lot of things. It's kind of boring, but I love the people in that class.

Precalculus - nap time or do homework for other classes
AP Chemistry - the tests are pretty challenging and contain a lot of problems that hadn't been introduced to us before. I usually get like a C on a good amount of them even though I know the content. Lab reports are annoying to write but they aren't very hard to do. AP US History - Have to read this boring ass text book at home and write some other mini essays and ****, while in class he just gives lectures the whole time. DBQ's are gay and the multiple choice tests are a little short from impossible. English - talk about stupid stuff. My class is full of idiots, we either go over directions for assignments for at least 10 minutes on anything. I usually just solve sudokus or dose off. Physics - class is pretty easy, there isn't much homework, and if there is I usually don't bother with it anyway. We don't usually get any lab reports and the tests are generally easy. Got an A+ in that ****. Band - zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz |

I wish my school had more AP classes than just AP Calc, AP Bio, and AP English Lit. I'd be in two more AP classes if we had AP Chem and AP US History

Weird how some of you have your English classes labeled as "II" or "III".
x] Anyway... Biology Honors: Slowest class ever. We are behind because my teacher talks too much about her personal experiences in college, etc. Terrible teacher. We're just about to begin on Meiosis. Homework usually takes 30 minutes, and not every day. Geometry Honors: Working on perfect squares and special right triangles right now. Usually takes 30 minutes as well if on a worksheet, or about an hour if it's a textbook assignment. Center for the Arts - Visual Art II: Abstract painting unit right now, though we're doing our pieces in oil pastels. I'm the first one to finish, and it was really fun I think. We have to complete 20 pages in our sketchbooks every interim period, so 40 every nine week period, and 80 total for each semester. We can do more pages or whatever. We also have to complete 3 hours of community service every nine weeks - art related. Also, we have to go to a gallery show or museum and critic a work of art every nine weeks as well. And we get assigned home projects as well - usually given 6 weeks to complete one. The next one is due on Tuesday. English 10 Honors: Studying Shakespeare's Julius Caesar in class right now. Just finished analyzing Brutus and Antony's speeches after his death using rhetorical devices. Homework usually takes 15-30 minutes. Spanish III: Vocab terms about health - flu, cold, staying healthy, etc. Really easy class for me, I think. Constant A all year. Homework usually takes 5-10 minutes. 20th Cent VA & US Honors: Watching Casablanca and about to go into the Cold War. Homework varies. Sometimes it takes 30 minutes, and one time it took 3 hours - just reading papers on the subjects and taking notes on them most of the time, or filling in maps.

For us, English I, II, III and IV are college prep level classes. English 9, 10, 11 and 12 are standard level I think. We also don't have Eng Honors III or IV, just AP.

Our "standard classes" are college prep classes here. We have 9, 10, 11, and 12 either college prep or honors. Then there's AP English 11 or 12.
