1-Handed is playing usually with your index, middle, and ring fingers on either hand.
Spread is playing with your index and middle fingers on BOTH hands. Index is using only your two index fingers for all the arrows. |

Spread is actually when you hot-key your keys to something like "a,s,l,;" and use index and middle. This is believed to be the superior playing style. Four Fingered is where you play with your index and middle both hands

When you get to harder difficulties or want to be able to Full Combo and AAA songs you're going to need to switch. For the longest time I played like you until I couldn't pass things without mashing. I now play four-fingered and need to move up into spread to do any better. My advice would be to switch to spread when they come out the the spread feature in setting within a week. It'll feel awkward at first but in the end you will be a better player. Playing 3 fingered it like trying to play DDR with 1 foot or trying to play basket ball with 1 hand...you're severely handicapped.

I'm slowly switching to four-fingered, eventually I'll try spread...It's just too much of a switch that is happening so suddenly.

Not true, I play spread with left-down-8-6. Only used AHK once or twice and I didn't like it.

Could you hotkey "WSAD" and " Up Down Left Right",
Or would you just use "AD" and "Up Down"? |

Popular spread styles include stuff like zx./ (what I use when I'm forced to play on spread [like my laptop
]). I play 4-fingered on the arrow keys with my middle and ring fingers. |

WSAD and Up Down Left Right would be considered double set-up, which is against the rules. However, AD Up Down is perfectly fine.

Not totally good example, I actually play 50-70% better when I play basketball one handed. And one handed isn't totally as awful as people make it out to be. But if you ever really do want to become amazing at FFR then play spread.

I would suggest playing one handed if you're used to it (like me) but practice spread too it'll bring you places that one hand alone cannot
