I played Crescent Moon. I actually liked most of the song. (The end could be better)

heh, maybe, and thanks, I think Crescent Moon is my best file yet, there are still some little tweaks to work out, but I'm waiting on the queue batch comments before I change too much

'all' I think is an overstatement, an in general I would take advice from a step artist of your calibur, but you hate me, so I really don't know if you're just saying that out of spite, I will wait for other comments

And I am the idiot that uses .smzip, because I can't find the .dwi file anywhere

Keep in mind that this doesn't work most of the time. I realize that there's about to be a batch drought, so you'll have plenty of time to revise before the next batch... But typically, the batch closes a few days after the previous batch notes are released. This doesn't give much time for you to revise your file. And when you're rushed, quality is much lower. It's best to revise your files over the course of the judging period. Being able to see your mistakes without the help of judges or testers is a good step toward becoming better. Of course, you still may want to have step authors test your files for anything you missed. Because the judges have a lot of files to test, the judging quality is lower.... and these suggestions only come once a month. Don't send files to the judges if you're just looking for suggestions. A good friend who can teach you—not just fix—what you did wrong is a great help. Without a skilled tester, you're stuck getting minimal help once a month. ...

What you can do is right click on your desktop to create a new .zip file and name it "Song Name (username)", open your Step Mania folder, go to the songs folders, and drag the folder of the stepfile in to the newly made .zip. (The .dwi and .sm files are in that song folder, along with the .mp3 and grahpics etc.) (Sorry if you already knew all that.)

Here's a quick syncing tip for you, daman: listen to the chords (if I song has them). If you found a fitting BPM through a BPM analyzer... Well, first, hear how often a chord sounds. If it's once per two measures, then... If it ever becomes once every four measures, that's when you half the BPM. If the chord progression is going at the same BPM, there's no reason to do those weird fractions-of-the-bpm-for-pretty-notes things. If the chords hit at the beginning of a measure, make sure they always hit at the beginning of a measure. You can slow down the rate of the song to notice BPM changes easlierly. If the steps ever start to feel off for you, and you know you have the correct BPM and offset at the beginning... Then there's a BPM change around there. Typically, BPM changes are at the beginning of musical phrases. So change the BPM until the notes feel onbeat again. If you're synced properly, you won't have colored-note syndrome (unless it's the notes that are offbeat and not the song). Torley Wong songs tend to have a lot of BPM changes. Mixmeister often gives a weird decimal, but the songs actually start on whole-note BPMs and have changes. Three of his songs I've stepped are New Rave, Purity Control, and Oblique Breaks. They all have small BPM changes.

I'm just going to end now. I apologize if I sounded condescending or irrelevant at any point; I just wanted to try to help, and I typed up what my mind thought. And I hope I'm not looking stupid right now.

Very helpful Silvuh, thanks so much for the tipis ^_^

And I already knew all of that about the file, problem is, the song exists in stepmania, but the songs file doesn't exist in the stepmania folder, at first I thought this wasn't possible, because there is no file for Crescent Moon nor any of my other stepped songs, so I put them in .smzip

For BPM halvings/doublings I listen the accents of the backbeat (generally a snare drum). [Assuming the snare hits are on beat 2 and 4] I change the BPM so the snare accents are on beat 2 and 4. Obviously not all music is accented on beats 2 and 4 but I use that idea in the context of the song in question and apply it to decide what BPM to use.

ok. starting on the batch...

27 +d by both
12 +d by jx
13 +d by rebirth.

means i need to test 52 files. will finish it tomorrow sometime.

also, jx used a + and +. system for high/low queue. if he gave a file a +. and rebirth did not +, i did not include it in my list to play.

No if I give anything a +? it doesn't need to be tested. Unless you did accept a file which I +?'d but thats only because tass plays everything we both accept

Well, then I think it's silly to give a file a rating with a + in it if it's not good enough to be tested. Small complaint, but it's a bit realistic, right? You could use something, like +, x, and -... the "x" being neutral, symbolizing "no response" (in a sense of good and bad, not critique, of course).

I guess the +? leaves room for personal bias. There are lots of files that I like but I can see aspects that might turn off other people, and the other way around as well.

But yea, with the frequency at which they are being used, they really are pointless.

makes sense, but I think if it get a + from JX and a +? from Rebirth, tass should still play it, and secondly,

I just played Zephon again and rednanaki's file has so many parts that are off-sync and badly stepped, had did this file get in?

And lastly, is the new batch up or coming up later tonight or tomorrow?

+. would be +? if I judge strictly, but + if I do leniently.

I did this because they can't resubmit files for a while.
