ROB is an entity, a being of Nintendo, whether you like it or not. He was important enough to Nintendo to use as a character in Starfox and in Mario Kart. Really, it's silly to find an excuse why he wouldn't be in. This is Sakurai who's making the game, after all.

ROB in StarFox != R.O.B.

Also. Neither of them are playable characters in a franchise series. That's rule #1 for character choices. Like I said before, a cameo appearance in a spin-off series is not even remotely related to someone like Mario who is the main character in like 50 games.

Off the top of my head, I can't think of a game where you actually play as Zelda or Sheik, however there are exceptions to the rule when you appear in every game in the franchise.

ROB? You don't even see ROB until Starfox ADVENTURES, the piece of **** game for Gamecube that absolutely nobody liked. And guess who was actually playable in that game? Krystal! The girl whose voice actress confirmed a speaking role for Super Smash Brothers Brawl!

Of course, she could be an Assist Trophy. She could just be background noise for Corneria. She could just be a part of Fox's Adventure Mode. But one thing is for certain: she's a more likely candidate than ROB.

Also, nobody talked about Tuesday's update: Manaphy.

That's gonna be sick. Of course, no-item freaks don't get to enjoy it, but it would be such an awesome addition to your kind of close-range fighting. For just a short time frame, you have to play as the other guy's character. That's just excellent.

Can somebody describe it to me? Because the site on the school computers is blocked.

Is it like the Mushroom Kingdom in Melee? Or is it more resemblant of the Adventure Mode Mushroom Kingdom?

Its like an actual stage in the original Super Mario games. The stage scrolls horizontally just like how Ice Mountain or whatever its called in Melee scrolls vertically.

Yeah, specifically it's the original stages 1-1 and sometimes 1-2 that you're scrolling through from the original Super Mario Bros, supa classix

Also oh ya Manaphy. That's gonna be fun, I wonder how long you remain the swapped character though. The average length an item lasts in-game seems to be around 10-15 seconds... Hopefully they keep your swap for longer than that.

Well it was still based off the same R.O.B.

I think you are forgetting one thing: you have to expect the unexpected with Sakurai. While R.O.B. may seem unimportant, he was important enough to include in later games and SSE. He is a solid part of Nintendo history. He is, I dare say, more important than the Ice Climbers.

R.O.B. was an unplayable peripheral that absolutely sucked. Nobody knew how to build it. Nobody knew how to use it. It was ridiculously loud. It was ridiculously slow.

ROB was a support character who wasn't even a part of the StarFox team. He's just a maintenance bot associated with the Great Fox.

I get that Sakurai is willing to put anyone in the game, but seriously.

Also, Ice Climbers. You may think they're just some unknown entity. That's why Wikipedia exists.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_Climbers

"In some countries of Europe, the console game was bundled with the NES, increasing the game's familiarity outside Japan."

"Ice Climber has been ported a handful of times. Note that Vs. Ice Climber is not a true port, since it includes elements not found in the original NES game, such as a stage select menu, blizzard and wind effects, new enemies, and bonus multipliers. For the release on the PC-8801, the game changes to a different and more limited color palette along with a reworked GUI.[4] Including the releases listed below, the entire NES game is found within the 2001 Nintendo 64 release of Animal Forest and the 2002 GameCube release of Animal Crossing."

I'd say that's a pretty popular game wouldn't you?

R.O.B.

Compatible games

* Gyromite — Included with every R.O.B.
* Stack-Up — Sold separately.

Wow two games. And you don't even play as R.O.B. Tell me how many people own Gyromite. If you go to the Gyromite page, you see this:

"R.O.B. will be appearing in the upcoming Super Smash Bros. Brawl as a group of enemies working for the Subspace Army, led by the Ancient Minister."

Which leads me to the Brawl article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_S...space_Emissary

"'The Subspace Emissary' features a new group of antagonists called the Subspace Army, who are led by the Ancient Minister. Some of these enemy characters appeared in previous Nintendo video games, such as Petey Piranha from the Mario series and a squadron of R.O.B.s based on classic Nintendo hardware."

Which leads me here:

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamem...a/modea06.html

OH GOD BRACE FOR IMPACT

"The escort the Ancient Minister brings with him is a R.O.B squad?! There are some that fire beams and others that fire missiles."

squeek is right.. rob might be used as an spin-off character on mario kart DS or star fox (wich i disagree with star fox assault..i did like it) or a peripheral, but there's almost no way that he is a playable character..and as he said before he's only gonna be an enemy in the main adventure.

also i'm extremely happy with the new stage but not so happy about the new pokemon XD i would not like my sheik being changed by a donkey kong

Lol, Zidart, consider it run away without getting hit practice.

Sometimes my friends and I would play a 4 stock game on 3 minute time limit. One person attacks the whole time, while the other person just tries to stay alive. If the time runs out, runner wins. If runner dies, killer wins. It's pretty fun, but mostly training.

..and yeah, Rob probably won't even be an AT.

i don't play that way...winning but having the less kills in the match is a shame for me XD

I looked at the Mushroomy Kingdom update and thought "Wow, this was such an obvious idea, why wasn't it done before?"

Seriously, it's about time we got World 1-1 in Smash. That will be awesome.

I said starfox adventure.

The RPG.

Also, a ton of new videos on GameTrailers:

http://www.gametrailers.com/game/2686.html

This is the important one: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/29932.html

And I've said it before, but damn, sonic is hella fast.

PS - I've heard that last song before. I don't think it's the Metal Gear song, but can anyone confirm? It's the violin track that also plays during some of the Subspace Emissary videos.

Rather lame update today, it looks like it's running fine over Wi-Fi so thats good. Not too long a distance, though, I'm wondering how it'll fare for me. Alaska is pretty far away from, well, everywhere.

There are snippets of the level builder in various videos on gametrailers.

By the way, I found the song I was talking about:

I watched some videos, and I noticed that Lucas's Up+B move has tighter turning capabilities, and moves a little faster than Ness's. That will certainly help with recovery.

The wi-fi lag update is awesome, because that is most likely as bad as it will get, being that there were four humans, and a stage with a constantly changing background. This is not considering the speed of people's connections, of course, but with a good connection, this game should run just fine online.

I can't wait. =D
