I have 18 months (legally in the U.S.)

You can hold a beer at any age.

You can legally purchase alcohol only when you're 21 in the States.

Also, the Canadian drinking age is mainly 19. Only 18 in three provinces.

18 is the age for smoking, voting, drafting, jury duty, and claiming independence from your family if you wish. Not drinking.

Actually I'm not sure about the rest of the country, but in at least New York and New Jersey they have changed the smoking age to 19 in a very half assed attempt to keep smoking out of schools

uh, actually at age 18 you are legally allowed to transport alcohol.

Same thing goes for a restaurant. If you work at a restaurant that serves alcohol, you must be 18 to serve it.

and being 10 minutes away from the border by car, and 3 minutes by boat.. i know all about being 19 and living close to canada

and fyi, you dont need a passport. only your real birth certificate.

They changed the tobacco law right when I turned 18 and I was really pissed. I still never had a problem finding at least a handful of stores that would sell them to me anyway. But my point is they need to figure out who is considered an adult and who is not in this country. Just my two cents.

And the drinking age is total bs. Nobody that I know that is under the age of 21 and over 18 has ever had a problem getting drinks from somewhere/someone. The law doesn't hinder my drinking habits.

It also helps that in New York it is really easy to chalk our IDs...even though that is extremely illegal. Ahem.

Coming back into michigan can sometimes be a pain. The bridge's security can be annoying. I haven't been to Canada since i turned 19 awhile ago. Maybe i should go.

youd be legal in alberta or quebec
i turn 18 this year but i have to be 19 to drink in ontario (i could care less that theres a drinking age though, it doesnt really stop me)
plus i can just go to quebec i live like an hour away

To the extent of my knowledge, you are allowed to handle/sell alcohol at the age of 18 but not consume it.
