Default If you knew. . .

If you knew about your future, or your destiny, bleak or not, would you try and change it?

What if you couldn't change your future/destiny? Would you want to know it?

Have you ever wondered that perhaps we're only given the perception of choice? For example: If were going to go left or right, and we knew we were going to go to the left, that we would every time, regardless if we knew that we could go right? That the choice we think we have is actually not a choice at all, but just an illusion?

Maybe the "what if" theories we think of, can't ever happen.. because we'll always do the same thing regardless of how many times we ran through the situation.

I'm not talking about running something twice. I'm talking about doing something once, than going back in time and doing it again for the first time, again.

What do you think?

No I wouldn't try to change it, and if given a chance I wouldn't even want to know my future.

And yes, I sometimes do wonder if our ability to "choose" is just an illusion. But there's no way of knowing is there? Despite what we do - like whether I choose to post this or not - how are we to know if "our choice" that was already chosen for us (fate in a way) or if we really did it ourselves. So.. there's really no point in thinking about stuff like that; just like how there's no point in debating whether or not God exists.

No, I would not. Just as I do not regret anything or want to change anything I have done in my past, I would not want to change anything about my future.

I used to be one of those people who wanted to know what was going on at all times. I needed to know right then how everything was going to turn out. I do not really know what changed, but something did, and I am happy it did. I enjoy not knowing what lies ahead, it makes life that much more exciting. Do not misnderstand me, I enjoy having plans and goals for my future, but I would not like it if I knew everything about what is in store for me.

Sometimes I wonder about our ability to choose, but I agree with cocobeans, that debate will take you in circles. I have a stong belief in God, and I firmly believe He gives us free will, but watches out for us at the same time. He knows what we are going to decide, but it is completely our decision.

I THINK that you watched the Matrix one too many times.... But this is what I kind of think....

That there is fate, and that we do have choices though, but in the end, we WILL be fullfilling what is our destiny.... Like if our fate is to turn left in 2 minutes or whatever.... No matter what choices we make, we WILL turn left.... A lot of movies kind of play on that idea of choice just being an illusion.... Like the Time Machine and Matrix and other movies.....

I would only try and change it if I like, died. I would try and keep myself alive longer, but other than that I'd leave my future alone.

Actually I got this idea after watching Donnie Darko, not the Matrix.

Plus you missed the fact that I said that you wouldn't be able to change your future. YOu can't say you'd want to know it unless you would die in it (obviously, not of natural causes). You'd either want to know it all including the chance of a premature death, or not at all. I'm just asking that knowing full well you can't change it regardless of what you know.. would you want to know it?

Myself, I'm split. I think I'd want to know, even if it meant I had a brutal death. But this fact of not being able to change my own destiny is really against everything I believe in. I'm not athiest (as I thought earlier) but actually I'm agnostic. I deny the existence of god because of lack of proof, but if there was proof, I would embrace him. That's opposed to denying god's existence altogether. Anyways, as for choice, it always bothers me. I usually just do what my instinct tells me to do, right or wrong. Advise can be helpful, but some people take it too far and let someone else's advice make a decision for them even if they aren't sure. Which is why, in some ways, choice is an illusion. You think you're making a choice, but you're actually just blindly obeying someone else's suggestion. Which is why typically, I don't ask for advice. If you're wrong, you're wrong. If you're right, it just proves that you should trust yourself more often.

I think all to much about these things.

Nothing in the world is random. Absolutely nothing. Everything is affected by something else. Not enough people in this world realize that.

Just changing it would mean that it was never your destiny after all.

Yeah I agree with Panda... When you see your future you would see it as it was going to be before you saw your future so when you see that it wouldn't be your future anymore you future would change after you know what happens so you wouldn't know your future anymore. OR even if it was your future after you saw your future it would still change so it is impossible to konw your future.
