That may have been the most inaccurate description of the metal genre I have ever heard. There is only a small portion of the metal genre that preaches Satanism, and I mean SMALL. You have to dig deep into Black Metal to find any of that stuff, and that's where it's typically confined to. The rest of metal isn't even remotely related to Satanism; however, it suffers the same stereotype because of blatantly misrepresentative statements like 'metal tends to glorify Satanism'. Do you know how many Christian metal bands are out there singing about God? More than there are singing about Satan, I will tell you that much. I'm in no way religious, but you might as well say that metal tends to glorify God.
I can't say so much about Hip-Hop, because I don't listen to it and I don't know the scene very well, but I'll place a bet that most people would disagree with the genre portraying the 'gangster' image. It is a small portion that does so - but it's that portion that gets all of the attention and negative criticism - same with metal. |
