Default Laptop suggestion!?

Hey there! I really need some help on picknig a labtop. I need something that would go great with photoshop because it's primarily going to be a work labtop and all of my work will be photoshop based, hence animator. And I also want that same labtop to support Stepmania with no problems because I'm going to be using that much as well including having it be able to support a metal dance pad and an S-Video slot so that I can hook it up to the kick ass TV at my college and host stepmania tournaments! I really need an expert opinion on this and the labtop I should buy. Someone once suggested a Mac, and another says it doesn't matter but after all of the harsh criticism of VISTA I am dreaded to go near it...

Toshiba HDDs have failed on me numerous times, and I've used VAIO laptops and desktops for years, and I can say, both are horrid.

I've always been partial to Dell laptops, I can't stand Macs. I personally don't mind Vista, but I'm seriously tempted to put Linux on this machine, especially since there's a good picture editing program (free, I might add) that works in Linux.

Dell makes a decent laptop. And you can customize it, which is what I think you want.

And yes. XP>Vista for just about everything right now.

Buy a Mac. They're just great little machines. Even getting an entry level MacBook is well worth it. I've never heard of a Mac user who had problems or complaints. Plus, Panther is just amazing. And Vista is just terrible. You shouldn't have to downgrade a PC because the new OS is that terrible. Don't put up with it.

And if you want to be doing Photoshoping and SMing, then you sound like a future Mac user. PCs are just going to give you trouble. Yes, Macs can run SM. People are always surprised to hear about all the stuff Macs can run.

Cool, and I will say that if you decide to go with a PC (I won't judge you for it) then I would recommend a Dell. I'm on one right now and Dell makes some pretty awesome stuff. Just be sure to downgrade it to XP, because Vista is just unbearable.

Is that wink because VAIO's are complete garbage? If I was anyone getting a computer, this is my advice to you - STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM VAIO'S. There. I feel better. I say that because getting one of those bad boys fixed when they break is IMPOSSIBLE. Sony likes to make their parts exclusively, so you have to send your computer directly to a Sony manufacturer - which can take weeks if you're not close to a manufacturer.

Lastly, I have a Toshiba, and I love it. I think I have one of the Satellite models (don't remember which), and I haven't had any problems with it except that one time I tried to play with my MSConfig. All in all, I'd recommend a Toshiba to you.

P.S. Get on Amazon or some other place that reviews electronics and see what people say. It'll help you a ton.

EDIT: Get a machine with XP - they're more reliable, and cheaper.

If you buy a computer off the Alienware website you can custom select the programs you want. I selected XP for my laptop becauase I didn't want to deal with Vista. The graphics are great, and it's an all around good comp for gamers. The only downside is the cost. But I think it's worth it. I've never had a problem in over a year, and my other laptops didn't last more than a year at most before they completely died.

I have to ask (because I'm still a newbie) after looking over the thread in general and noting about three posts in particular, are there people who are just total ass****s that I should stay away from them? Anyone in my thread in particular?
