The file probably won't get released for like 2 months anyways.

Have fun with that, because not only do you have to compete with stargroup's file, but bmah's as well.

Ah, btw, if I were to submit a 5:20 long metal song would I have any chance of getting it in if it was cool?

I have so many avant-garde stepfiles for FFR that I'm really hesitant to submit at the moment. One of them is so experimental even I forget how I layered the file. lol

They may be really experimental, but they are ridiculously fun. Actually, PARANOiA was an experiment that turned out a success.

I'll probably have the judges test it outside the batch.

Why not? Metal + 5 mins + fun file = Queued.

Well, revising didn't take long for me actually, and I still have a good amount of confidence on my file before completely throwing in the towel. And bmah stepped it too eh? Hmmm...

To bad I am no GLoVE, and we don't have permissions for cool bands like Dream Theater ;_;

There was one song I really wanted to step that had amazing potential, but it's been over a month and I still have no MP3. Dear Drugstore, if you are reading this do something.

No, for I am insignificant.

(Uh, avant garde? Is that ponce-speak for retro?)

Avant-garde is basically experimental music that is so complicated, to the layperson it makes absolutely no sense. Play the hard songs in the A Black Rose Burial widget for an example of avant-garde metal.

Guh...I meant more like the steps. How some files don't go to the music and/or have awkward patterns but are still fun. Hence the reference to Kagami.

Didn't care too much for the music because I don't really hear/understand metal much, especially something as hardcore and avant-garde as this.
Hahaha that's a hell of a compliment coming from you

Pfft, I can give compliments.

Tamborin Chinois (pardon the spelling if wrong) is extremely fun and had some unique patterns. Rhythms were varied, making it an extremely good song choice.

Balloon Fever is inconsistent, but that's Kilga's style, which he shows much expertise in executing as the patterns are extremely fun. The 8th note jump thing later in the song is ridiculously fun and unique because of the rhythm, and it's probably the highlight of the file. It's layered quite well, and the song choice is pretty good.

Frozen Rain is a very cool, but slightly repetitive song. Behanjc puts many flowing patterns and fun rhythms in the song, and the streams fit the music quite nicely. The jumps are reasonably placed and there are a few unique traits to the file.

There. Constructive compliments for 3 random files I enjoyed. I'm not always negative. I'm just too SM influenced. :P

P.S. Tested scottish's file just today earlier back. It's a really cool file, and got an extremely positive review from me.

And BDN, I guess it depends on how avant-garde the file is. If you're really pushing it (like I'm about to), probably not, but if it's something not as significant (see my PARANOiA), it shouldn't be a problem. Oh, and for the record, Balloon Fever is not really an avant-garde file, it's just really creative. Haven't played Kagami yet.

EDIT: Played Kagami. Have to say, it was somewhat fun. However, there were a few places where the file could have at least followed the music better. Decent, but not great. I can see how this could be avant-garde though.

As for avant garde, do you mean something like the MODEL DD series and The least 100sec.?
