Before I take this issue to my student council so they can take it to adminstiration.
Quote:
At what point does something become extreme or excessive? Ex1. One teacher allows a black haired girl to dye her hair a natural looking blonde while another student was suspended for it. Ex2. I have a lot of friends with spiked hair but some teachers send students straight to the office for it. It would seem that the rules are at the discretion of the staff. But that allows teachers to be biased and/or racist. I don't want to lose this argument because I say something stupid so I need help on providing a good agrument to be presented. Anything helps since I want to dye my hair but don't want to get suspended for it...

Do a mohawk and use the left-over hair to make two pony tails.

Well if it's public school, its well in your rights to do whatever you want with yourself outside of school. It's creative/artistic expression or personal interest and you are not allowed to be punished by it.
If it's private school then it is their rules. A religious school, i have no idea. |

"student code of conduct" is just another way of saying "i dont give a flying **** about your constitutional rights."
i find it ironic that a place made for teaching/learning is, in my experience, usually run by half a dozen idiots. i once got in trouble for saying i didnt like one of my teachers... and got in trouble. i didnt use any profanity and i didnt use any sort of malice but i was still punished... i mentioned that i had the right of free speech and my dumb**** teacher actually had the audacity to say i wasnt an adult and therefor not a citizen and therefor had no rights... you'll find that school rules are loosely written so that the school can do what ever they want. im actually going to the school board on monday to appeal my alternative school that i got because i put my book bag in front of a crapily constructed restroom stall while my friend took a dump on the floor. needless to say craping on the floor is not against any specific rule or law for that matter. so they punished him with "other" and the punishment is at the principal's discretion. i say you do what ever the hell you want to with you hair and if they punish you then take to the school board and if they shoot you down you can appeal to their bosses and so on and so forth. But then again, this would be known as "talking back" to your teacher. But then again, you have every right to debate against something that is sought to be unlawfully said, OR maybe not. |

I guess I should be thankful that my school teaching staff is actually half-decent. They do give tough assignments, but it's most likely the I.S.D. enforcing this. I know that half of them would give us the least bit of slack if they wanted to. And on the rare occasion that they do get in a bit of an argument, they actually find a little bit of fun out of it as opposed to pretending that citizenship is only granted to those that come of age.
It's some of the administrative staff I don't like. I'll give two prime examples: a) This was my very first week of high school, which didn't help with the rest of the crap that was going on. I ordered my books at the book-room (Issued by the assistant principal), and went home by car -- I avoid this when I can to keep my mom from getting agitated, due to living 15 minutes away from the school, gas being expensive, work, etc. It was when I got home far later that I realized that she had issued me an IPC book - I was in Pre-AP Biology. The next afternoon, I found time to head back to the book-room. My assistant principal explains to me that they were awaiting new Biology books...yet she gave me an IPC book. I didn't have the heart to ask "Why didn't you just tell me that then, you stupid bitch?", so I probably spent a week or so (and multiple car-rides home, to my aunt's dissapointment) trying to get that IPC book traded in. b) Our school has a ninth grade center. My first and fifth period last year was at the main campus, though. Seeing how me and my friends usually got there with plenty of extra time, a lot of time was spent playing Wall-ball or other ball-sports outside the band hall. My ball history goes as follows: -I accidentally kicked a soccer ball over. -In an attempt to knock an ice-shelf down from a nearby sunroof, I offered a fellow band member my soccer ball to knock it down. It bounced right off and went on the roof. -Another friend was being an asshole and threw a tennis ball over the roof. -I was statue'd (I had to throw from that spot), and thought I could throw it over a low section of the building. I was wrong. -A friend of mine that was generally new to our Wall-ball rules had to take a few tries to learn how to throw properly. Unfortunately, one of them went over. -Another asshole. Last year, among one of those lost balls, I decided to see if I could atleast get one of those down before risking another. I convinced one of the staff members to try and get a custodian to fetch a ball or two. This woman didn't look qualified for her job at all. It took about 10 minutes before she properly contacted the janitor, not to mention the awful Valley Girl accent. I wait one week. No response. I decide to go down to the office and remind her that I told her this crap a week ago, wrote down my name, and even gave her my name, grade, and when to contact me. Unfortunately, that same woman was there. I take it that it was why I still didn't get a report two weeks later and just said "Screw it." |

The pipes aren't very sturdy, and I wouldn't want a two-story fall on solid concrete.
