Everything's updated and I changed the way things are scored.
From now on it is more a matter of rank. The faster you do a skill round, the higher your rank. The better your score on a skill round, the higher your rank. The faster you do a mental challenge, the higher your rank. Any round can be done again at any time to increase your scores. The previous scoring system was a bit flawed because skill rounds had such crazy variances to them compared to speed rounds, but now I will just base it on how you do relative to your peers. Difficult speed rounds won't be TOO much of an issue because it just means fewer people will meet the goal, meaning you can still hit huge points if you're late. This way the game's variance is smaller and more competitive. It is much easier now to gain footholds over other people, so beware! All bonuses are worth 250 points and can be done at any time. EVERY ROUND IS IN ACTION! FEEL FREE TO UPDATE ANY SCORES AT ANY TIME! magirocker: WTF. Send me a PM. That is the weirdest thing ever. Last edited by MrRubix; 10-8-2007 at 02:45 PM.. |

sorry. my computer was being an ass. for sum apparent reason, everytime i'd log in it'd say, thank you for loging in Mapleleaf2102. then it'd return to the main page and ask me to register for an account. All of a sudden it worked today. Also, thanks for teh hints they helped a bunch except for number 1. Who do i ask for the Synthlight Photon speed? i'm confusled. Plus is the answer to the finger one(#6) a number? If so, is it less than 100?

The answer to #6 is a number less than 100, yes.
Well, as for who to ask, try asking the users yourselves. AGAIN A REMINDER TO EVERYONE Every round is ALWAYS OPEN. You can achieve bonuses at ANY TIME. Check the individual score screenshot after the roster to see how you'd have to stack up. Have fun! |

The new structure will let more people participate so it doesn't become an obvious one-man race

I like the new scoring system, but why am I tied with 3 other people on the mental challenge? Because I solved it first, shouldn't I be ranked higher than them, even if the times were close?

Rubix, buddy... your rank is logically incorrect for #3 individually. it should be 1, 2 for all the 3800s, 6th for the 3610, then 7 for the bonus only people.
it aids anyone below 3800+250 points for the round by your current system, while penalizing the people with a rank of 1 or 2. make sense? edit: also, i do agree with XBMaster. since the scoring is no longer based on an hourly time system, it doesn't make sense to give them all equal credit. XB did submit before the other 3, albeit less than 1 hour sooner... and i know the other 3 all worked together, so it makes sense to give those 3 all the same time/score, but XB should get 2nd all by himself. so: 1, 2, 3, 3, 3, 6, 7, 7. then 8th for everyone with 0...... although, frankly, i think a score of 0 should hurt someone much more than just the last place value. perhaps an automatic 50th place for a round if they get a score of 0.

if you can figure out why 12:04 would be L and 1:01 would be O... then you'll be able to figure out the answer to 5. it's very simple, which is why it's easy to overlook...
and, honestly, it still took me a long ass time with multiple hints to get it myself... and even then, i only got it (i think) because i've been solving puzzles for a long time, and this is sort of a common type of puzzle. but, there has been way more hints since then.

WHOA holy crap guys lol I know it's errored at the moment (I made the list differently for Round 3 since people worked together, but I hadn't finished working out the kinks yet), I have a bunch of midterms. Was going to fix it after I was finished, lol, thanks for noticing though!
Updated the scores and the screenshot. Let me know if anything's still out of whack, my brain's kinda dead right now. Personally I think leaving people at last-rank is perfectly fine with a 0-score. Anyways, remember that every round is always open. That includes the riddle round. So until this tournament is over, feel free to solve away until you can get some points for it ![]() As for this riddle round itself, I only say it is easy for similar reasons Tass does -- if you are used to riddle/problem-solving, these aren't too bad at all. However I honestly don't know how many hints I can give before the solution's practically spoiled. Regardless here is a really spoily hint for #5: number:number = word:number Last edited by MrRubix; 10-8-2007 at 07:12 PM.. |

And after calculating the variance and expected value of X^2 + Y^2 and the joint distribution of X=number from a rolled die and Y=the number of heads after flipping a coin X times, I think I'm going to be making a lot of them.
Sweet lord, "A system is made of n components, each operating independently with probability p. The total system will function if at least 1/2 of its components work. -When is a 2x+1 component system better than a 2x-1 component system?" I hate Wharton. |
