i spent hours playing with the voice recognition on my friend's laptop

it didn't recognize any phrases andlagged like ten minutes behind though so what i ended up doing was just creating an epic misinterpreted story

Vista doesn't really suck...you just need a nice computer to run it nicely. The only thing wrong with it would probably be bugs which usually get worked out in a few years and it's hard to use but it is slowly becoming more user friendly.

QFT. Vista runs like god with 2 gigs. I wouldn't accept anything less, you can tell the noticeable difference when you try out a floor model with 1GB or 512MB VS. 2GB.

I pity anyone that buys Vista with under 1 gig of RAM.

The OS has nothing to do with your crappy connection and laggy/****ty computer.

Actually, it is vista's fault... FFR (or vista) isn't meant for vista (or FFR) because of the OS structure... The same thing happens with stepmania... Vista screws them both up.. I've seen threads about both of them not working, so don't blame his connection/computer.

FFR is Flash based, and that has nothing to do with the OS, so what are you talking about?

Stepmania isn't Flash-based, by the way.

Most probably not...his computer gets lagged due to the RAM Vista uses

could it have something to do with the fact that there really isn't a fully functioning graphics card supporting DirectX10 yet?

Just get at least 2 gigs of ram and wait for vista sp1, then you should be fine.

Both Stepmania and FFR run fine on my Vista, i get like a constant 300 FPS in SM.

yes, they are compatible. I said fully support. Perhaps a better way to phrase it is that the new graphics cards, although proficient at running vista, are going to have difficulty dealing with the software of third party vendors (i.e. flash).

DirectX 10, unlike previous versions of DirectX, requires that any graphics card bearing its name supports everything in DirectX 10.

In other words, yes there are graphics cards that fully support DirectX 10. Lost Planet and BioShock are amazing with my 8600 GTS at full everything at 1920 x 1200.

And Organism, shut up. All you're doing is flaming everyone in this thread. Granted, a lot of people in this thread have no idea what they're talking about. If you remember back, XP had as many if not more flaws than Vista when it was first released.

EDIT: And for everything talking about memory, Aero is not the main memory user of Vista. Vista's prefetching component caches your most used programs and preloads them at startup. It makes everything run much, much faster. With both Aero and Sidebar running, I usually have about 40% of my 2 gigs of memory used.
