I don't really get it. Sometimes, i'm not really tired, and it takes like 1 hour to fall asleep. But when I wake up, and imy nap didn't last a long time, i'm VERY tired...although sleep is supposed to regenereate energy....not use it...
If someone knows the answer to this....

I hate sleep. Sleep is the biggest waste of time ever IMO. Think about it...that's 25 years of your life you lose from sleep.

ok. Do you know how ridiculous it sounds when you're confused about why you're body isn't happy with 5 1/2 hours of sleep? Of course your going to be tired! Most adults should at least have eight hours.
And if you have watched The Matrix a few too many times and think sleep is a waste, you're dead wrong. You may be awake for much longer if you barely sleep, but you also decrease the quality of the life you are living. It is very unhealthy. Lightdarkness, how can you think that insomnia won't make you tired? Sleep isn't like a bank account where you try to make up for lost sleep whenever you want. It is usually best to sleep at night, and be awake in the day. The Earth rotates for a reason. |

Uhhh.... I don't think Earth rotates to let lifeforms sleep.. I think we live on Earth because the Earth rotates...

The trick is to stay awake as long as possible. Then when you do sleep you get a really nice long rest. I'm talking 14 hours here. That's like once/twice a week.

Wow. I didn't think you would notice, Verruckter.
I figured that since everyone seems to want to take the benefits of sleep for granted, they may also try the same for life. |

Hey, watch me prove your theories wrong!
The earth rotates for a reason? That reason being gravitational force... There's nothing that says you can't change your sleep patterns to whatever you want and still be fine. I mean, just look at Vegas! During the day that place is almost a ghost town. At night it's beyond lively. Most people there sleep in the day and have fun all night. There's no other way to do things there. Not having sleep isn't going to hurt your body or shorten your lifespan. Some people can function after just a few hours of sleep and others can't. It's just that simple. Once you learn what you can tolerate then you accomodate for that time schedule and move on. ~Squeek |

Have you even seen the Matrix? I said that I believe that sleep is a waste of time...which it is. I guarantee they will find some chemical supplement for sleep or something like that. |

So now I'm on Twitter @NoahWright. And I write the blog for their website. Plus I do cool programming in-house that you'll never see. =O |

Jam wins, I know thats how I work. If I get anywhere between six and seven hours of sleep, Im more productive, anymore than that and I feel like I need more sleep.

Sleep is for champions. Heroes and champions. Aside from the multitude of health benefits of sleeping, just getting rest is awesome.
I'm not fully functional unless I get at least seven hours of sleep, and I'm well-rested after nine. Jam's chart is so right, though. 11-13 hours of sleep sucks when you get up, even though the process of sleeping rules, but 15+ is just stellar. --Guido http://andy.mikee385.com |

Its actually quite simple why people often wake up tired. People become tired when the chemical Melonin is produced in the brain, and they therefore will go to sleep. Melonin levels stay high until youre rested, so you dont wake up for no reason. Therefore, if you wake up with too little sleep, the melonin is still in your brain, and if you sleep too much and pass the time when youve had the amount of sleep you generally need, your brain continues to produce it since it doesn't really know what to do in this situation and its best not to wakeup if you still are trying to sleep.
edit: I'm not sure if its melonin, but some chemical that acts in the above way.

Sleep is very vital. While watching the discovery channel a few years ago, some people were doing some expeiments with mice. They were studying(sp) the effects of sleep on the mice. Too much, too little, and so foruth. Well, they decided to keep one up as long as possible. And after 18 days, the mouse just died. So there. If you dont sleep for 18 days, you will die.
