This has to be the most irrelevent amount of posts ever conceived by mankind.

By the way: My 2-handed positions own yours

Squeek's Method
Left Middle = Left
Left Index = Down
Right Middle = Up
Right Ring = Right

I adapted this after playing one handed for a really long time. All you do is replace the right index and shift up the middle. It feels much more comfortable to ME than index+middle 2x

My way for when I do play, which is rarely:

left pointer- left
right pointer- down
right middle- up
right ring- right
Don't ask, it's just the way I like it.

one hand--use the keypad. How the heck do you use two hands to play FFR?

I have to use two. I do things differently because I'm left handed. I have my right hand on the right key, and my left hand on the up, down, and left key... I'm a freak

I almost forgot that this thread was about finger position, placement, or whatever you want to call it. Well, after seeing another question on this general topic, I decided to search the archives. I found a bunch of threads on this subject and copied down the finger positions I saw. A couple didn't quite make sense, but most seemed reasonable. Here's what I found, but first a legend. The keys should be clear -- L = left, D = down, U = up, R = right, while numbers 4, 2, 8, 6 (the LDUR order) are for the number pad. For hands, L and R are left and right of course. For fingers, I used 1 = index, 2 = middle, 3 = ring, 4 = pinky/little, 5 = thumb. I'll put it in a table and I'm going to use code tags so they line up.
Code:
L D U R
R1 R2 R2 R3
L2 R1 L1 R2
L2 L1 R1 R2
L1 R1 R2 R3
R1 R5 R2 R3
L2 L1 R1 R5
L2 L1 R2 R3
L2 L1 L2 R1
L2 R1 R2 L1
L2 L1 L1 L5
R1 R1 R2 R2
L1 L1 R1 R1
L2 L1 R2 R2
The very first one often had comments about how they hit up and down together, usually either using the right middle finger on both simultaneously or using R2 on U and sliding R1 over to D. There might have been others, but I think these were the most common.

Two more had me confused. If I assume that when they wrote something like "finger, finger on key, key" the first finger went with the first key and the second finger went with the second key, I get:
Code:
L D U R
L1 L1 R5 R1
R3 L3 R2 L2
which doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. The first one seems to work better if it's L1 L1 R1 R5 (right hand's fingers and keys were written 12,21 instead of 12,12), but I don't really get the second one at all, not without a lot of changes to how I interpreted what I read.

I also found two positions that were specifically used with the number pad:
Code:
4 2 8 6
R1 R5 R2 R4
L2 L1 R1 R2
And one placement that used both, key = hand and finger:
L = L2, D = L1, 8 = R1, 6 = R2

There were also a couple general comments like using indexes. Without specific keys mentioned, I just noted the fingers used: L1 & R1, L2 & R2, R1 & R2, R1 & R3.

In addition, I found a couple sort of roaming finger patterns where more than one finger was listed for one or more keys.
L1 on LDU, R1 on DUR
L2 on L, L1 on DU, R1 on DUR
R1 on LD, R2 on DU, R3 on R
Since the first is an L1 & R1 useage, I kind of assume when people say they use just indexes, these are the keys that they use each finger on.

This might not be a 100% complete list of every answer posted here, but it should be close. Unfortunately, I doubt that this will stop people from asking the question or searching out the answer themselves, but I can hope.

Okay, I just have to say something here.

The reason you have the preception that n00bs are ignorant is because you don't see the picture from any other view except from deep within your ass. A n00b is someone who is new, right? And when you are new at something you tend to ask questions and make mistakes. And instead of trying to help them learn from these mistakes, they are flamed and shunned until they just stop trying and complete assholes. There is a very long road from n00b to Ignorant Asshole. And some people decide to give them a jet car.

Well. Right-handed, three fingered playing style, that's the only way I think is reasonable and even if using two hands is a bit of advantage I will master the art of one handed playing, hah :P
