FF7 or Crono Trigger? Which was more ground breaking?

well the heck i don't know why i loved it so much, but it is one of the best i ever played, i loved the use of the materia, the limit breaks (wich i belive were new in the series) the story is the best point of it, and also all the extra stuff, maybe it wasn't very groundbreaking but still is one of the best games ever

i have to dissagree with you xD that is just 3D with some sprites, then final fantasy 7 is the real first full 3D rpg

First of all, that is true 3D.

Second of all, Final Fantasy 7 still isn't the first full 3D RPG.

Third of all, it's a moot point. With all the innovation Chrono Trigger brought to the table, one thing that may or may not be true about FF7 isn't enough to counter it. Chrono Trigger is easily more innovative.

ok now that i know about chrono trigger im lost, maybe final fantasy VII is not the best because of the innovation but of his story or some aspects of the gameplay, i better read the reviews to find out

FF7 isn't the best of anything, except maybe the best of a pathetic franchise that sells based on name alone. Or maybe the best in most overhyped game of all time. Who knows.

I'd say Chrono because of all the innovation, especially the monsters on field-touch them to battle part, well mostly since that carried into ToS, my favorite RPG to date. I've played FF7 and was just bored, it was sub par to me, always died from random encounters every time I picked it up too. =/ So I go with Chrono.

Chrono is probably one of my all time favorite games next to secret of mana (which is just fun) and FFIII (which had a great story) and I like all of them for different reasons.

Having never actually played FF7 (I watched someone play the whole thing though) I can only really just agree with Squeek.

P.S. Drakkhen sucked...or maybe I just sucked, I kept on dying in a lake.

well acording to the reviews i read, all of them were positive, the use of poligons in every character and monster was a huge step for the franchise, and the materia system introduced a new way to develop characters, also some apraise the depth of the game and it's plot being more deep than other RPGs of that generation, in addition people loved th limit breaks and they became another mark of the series.

squeek i think you just hate the final fantasy, but something you can't deny is that they are not overhyped and they are not pathetic because, is no just one place that say is one of the best franchises, many magazines, sites and people say so.

maybe chrono trigger is more groundbreaking, but final fantasy VII is still one of the best rpgs in history and the second best game ever (the legend of zelda ocarina of time is the first)

I do hate Final Fantasy. Why? Because it's absolute generic crap. I have yet to play one that managed to hold my interest for longer than an hour.

I don't really like Chrono Trigger either, so whatever. It's not that I'm biased to Chrono Trigger. I just hate it when people give so much credit to such a pathetic game like FF7.

And Ocarina of Time being #1? I admit it was good, but there are far better Zelda games out there, let alone other franchises.

it's just the opinion of 1 person out millions, just because you hate final fantasy doesn't mean is generic or bad. and also yes millions also say that ocarina is the best game ever

The Final Fantasy series as a whole may not be generic or bad (I think 12 is a step above a bunch of them, and 3 and 6 are god damn great) but 7 is by no means the best game ever, second best, or even close to the best. Hell its not even the best Final Fantasy. None of the Final Fantasy games are even close to being the best, and god damn don't get me started on Ocarina of Time. If anything its the most overrated game of all time >_> FF7 Would be Second in that.

Hmm.. I have never play Chrono Trigger, so when the second poster says Sephiroth, I think of the evil dude in FF. So, because I've definitely play FF and have never even heard of Chrono Trigger until I saw it as one of the songs in Arcade, I will cast my vote on FF7.
