i love ffr for the fact that it has rankings. i like SM because i can play hard song without avmisses. but i still like ffr more.

everything is just higher quality on SM. i don't get any BS misses on 16th note jumps like i do on ffr. i don't have my hotkey program working on ffr so i'm forced to play four finger with the arrow keys (which freakin blows). i really like how ffr gives you your rank and all but still... i'm just more of a SM player

I prefer the competition of FFR. Of course SM has better timing, themes, everything, etc., but that's natural, it being a dedicated client on your HDD. Flash can only do so much (4 framers, etc.).
Still, being pit up against thousands of other players with challenges to unlock things (ST/tokens) makes it more interesting.

![]() FFR is just a bit more interactive... and I don't have to go LOOKING for songs to play and download... they're all there already

I fully support this.
![]() Btw, I think that they are both good in their own ways. SM is more challenging with respect to keeping with the beat, especially on faster songs, but FFR is challenging in that you have to press early for jacks and the arrows are less smooth. In SM you can change the judge setting or life setting to add more challenge to the game. FFR presents more variety outside the game in that the multiplayer is, IMO, better, more fair, and has more people than stepmania multiplayer (SMO) does; and FFR rewards people with tokens you either have to find or skill tokens you have to earn. FFR has less variety in song choice, but more songs are being added every week and ffr songs are more readily available. In FFR multiplayer you know that your opponent will have the song that you're going to choose, whereas in SMO they might not have the song you want to play. The only advantage to SMO is that more than two players can play each other at a time, lag is not as bad, and kicking unwanted people is an option. SM is better for a good challenge, FFR is better for everything else. Last edited by Roy Campbell; 07-21-2007 at 06:28 PM.. |

And you can also get FFR's music on SM if you're not skilled enough.

They accomplish different things.
If you're just looking for a fun singleplayer experience with a lot of customizability, or if technical proficiency and an almost complete lack of glitches is important to you, SM is probably your thing. If you don't like downloading stuff, and like lots of stats ranking you in a ton of different ways against everyone, highscore lists for EVERY song, and basically a very competition-oriented game, FFR is probably your thing. That's not to say competition can't be achieved in SM (SMO) or that FFR can't provide a great purely singleplayer experience, but they ARE basically designed for two totally different things, and so comparing them is rather pointless.
