I like all anime, but hot anime characters are more for older people and are more appealing to me. Cute anime characters are what I expect to see on some Saturday morning cartoon.

cute girls are the innocent ones so it makes for a better plot (beaking the rules and not knowing and such) while the hot ones are the manipulatory or the ones swooning over someone they like for most of the episode/manga. i would say the cute ones are better to use.

Honestly, I'm stuck between hot and cute

I mean, some animes (what's the plural for anime?) have only hot characters and some are 100% Kawaii. Gunslinger Girl (well, the manga since the anime is so damn short) is a good example.
