You should be good enough to not fail the easiest song.

There's a beginner mode at the arcade for a reason.
And if you're asking this question, you're probably already good enough to be at the arcade, anyway. Just have fun. |

I think all these new kids playing are hillarious, don't get me wrong, I love to see new people playing... but I'ts just not the same anymore. When I started, or any vet for that matter, we probably started at the arcade. The only limit to how good we got was how much money we had in our pockets, I'm seeing kids excell faster than ever with home games. Unlike arcaders, the console kids have no consequence for trying a hard song, and they can play all you want. Up and coming arcaders could fear a song for ever, just for the simple reason that they might waste a precious credit. I do like seeing more players, but I hope kids still play at the arcades, you make alot of good friends too.

its not about how good you should be, but how much shit talk you can handle by people watching or other ddr players.

I don't think any level of skill is needed to play at the arcades... Hell, I started off playing at the arcades... And I thought I was so good when I nailed those beginner songs. This was a while ago however.

You guys are ALL lucky. The machine we have around here NEVER does free plays of any sort. It's always credit play. And it never changes either.

the first time I went to the arcade I thought I'd be awesome because I was already real good at the home version and I thought it would be even easier at the arcade, I ended up trying a song on standard (I think it was sakura) and falling off the machine in front of everyone, let's just say playing at home doesn't help much at the arcade unless you own cobalt fluxes (spelling?)

But yeah back on topic. I personally think it's best to start straight at the arcades. Because that way you won't learn to be all lazy by sliding your feet, because if you try doing that in the arcades, you're bound to either sprain an ankle or trip. Home pads also tend to be a smaller than the original arcade size (unless you have a metal pad, which not many people do/ can afford).
