Overall Ranking Thought

The point remanis that you should be able to get AAAd on the easy songs. If you can't, then obviously you aren't better than the people who can. How is it unfair to rank the better players above the ones who aren't as good?

Fine..but even if you do AAA a song what if it is commonly played and 80 or so people AAA'd it before you? Your rank would be 81..but if you saw a new song before everyone else and managed to AAA it you will forever be #1 unless hackers came into play..I mean that is still unfair and still makes newer songs more important.

(This all goes by my assumption that your rank doesn't decrease when you AAA a song and someone else AAA's it after you..their rank is then 1 below you..right? Please correct me if I'm wrong)

No, you are wrong. If 80 people all AAA, assuming there's no hackers, it says you got 1st, even though you may not be on the high score table. You always tie for your score if more than one person has that score. That's how the system is right now.

And I'm not sure what your confusion is, but even if you do get a highscore on a brand new song with a shitty score, how does it offset the balance at all? after a couple hours you'll be right down to 500- rank where you belong, once a few more people have gotten the chance to play.

Oh, I see...well I guess the system will work pretty well..there is only one flaw I still see...since the system bases your rank on your rank average then in theory I could just make a new screenname, AAA mario and have the number one rank on FFR (or at least tie for it)..is that fair? not at all...and I still don't think that being #1 on mario should have the same amount of influence on your ranking as being #1 on like uber rave.

You wouldn't have the #1 rank because of all the really low rankings you'd have on all the other songs.

True..I was thinking since you never play a song your name is never entered into the database for that song so there's no rank to put into the averaging..

I still think that getting 1st on a beginner song shouldn't be as influential as getting 1st on a very challenging song. I think some kind of weighting system should be added to give a higher rank on a tough song a lot more influence toward your overall rank (which is the exact aim of my ranking system suggestion).

I just thought of another very annoying thing about this system..since not playing a song results in the lowest possible rank it means you must basically play EVERY SONG on FFR and do decently well on them to have an even decent rank..if you forgot even one song thats a rank of about 20,000 averaged into your overall rank, which won't be pretty at all...and unless you play the songs in a very organized manner and remember which ones you did you'll be guessing and trying to find the songs you didn't complete yet..very tedious indeed...

When Synth wipes the scores, I play on playing all of them in order by category and simply writing down the ones I want to return to. Shouldn't take too long.

The question is how many people are actually going to be dedicated enough to do that...remember that the ranking system should be a measure of skill and not time devotion to tracking down every single song and doing well on it..you should be able to forget at least a few songs and still be pretty high up if you did really well on the others..but in this system that would not be true at all.

Actually, the system would most likely give average FFR players the highest ranks..this is because advanced players almost never spend time playing all the easy songs and beginner players cannot pass the harder songs...average players can do great on the easy songs and pretty well on the average songs...even if they do bad on the hard songs it's better than not doing it at all and getting a rank of over 200,000.

lol, Kilga, do an fc chart like me, but I haven't updated for the past few additions, because I want to start it over when R2 comes out.

*Edit* for all the new songs - they are blue, and That Razor Balade one has a orange circle in it and Silence has a red circle in it. Revo is now blue as well.

Wouldnt it be nice if the overall ranking updated as soon as you finished a song? i know it would be a ton of work, but it would be a dream come true...

hey, im a newb (you can tell b/c i just read this thread) but i think the system should be kept the way it is. i am deffinetly ranked
Besides if you want a good ranking your gonna practice a lot anyway right?really low right now. if i want to get better, il play more.

I say keep it how it is. The only change I'd like is daily updating.

It would put to much of a stress on the server when updating it every day so that is why it will never happen...

And it would be way to many database queries if you do it after every song...
