Know it's already more or less an open/close discussion as is, but if I may give my own opinion...
While it's normally based on how old the person is mentally, physically, and chronologically...it's my opinion that chronological and physical age both shouldn't matter whatsoever. Age is simply a tag placed on people as a means of keeping some order on things, and physical age...well, it's not someone's fault if they don't grow to a reasonable height or build to which they actually -look- like an adult, why should that stop them? That being said, one's more or less just a tag and the other is something beyond one's own control. While childbearing should have a specific physical age, since being too little would cause horrible complications, that's sortof linked to the whole "being unable to control how physically grown up you are" - however, if the person's mature enough to know how such risks can turn out, then again, they have every right to...I'm 20, but I get mistaken for 14. I'd like to have children someday, and I certainly wouldn't choose not-to simply because I don't "look like an adult", you know? Mental age...if someone's certain of what they want and are certain to a degree of their feelings and the possible outcome of things, then there's no reason they should be stopped, if my opinion. I know a lot of people would probably disagree with this outlook, but...there was a time when the average lifespan of people was 35 years, and people were getting married at 12-14, possibly even sooner. The only possible difference between then and now is average lifespan and, perhaps, the possibility that people of that age group are considerably less mature/responsible than kids were in the past, which doesn't seem all that far-fetched. In the end, a lot of things could work out better if they were allowed/disallowed based on people's maturity and responsibility - games, violent or adult movies or games, drinking, smoking, driving, going to war, owning a credit card...all of these could easily be handled properly if someone was of the right MENTAL age...unfortunately that method has too great a probability for error, thus we stick to the chronological tags and requirements we're given. Sorry if my post comes off as a bunchof babble, not terribly great at explaining stuff. ^^; Can't believe my first posts here's in a thread about loli... |

What I believe about Lolicon is that it is kind of like Hentai. I believe that it should be banned for anyone under the age of 18 (meaning people under the legal age that you become an adult cannot buy it from any store). Other than that, I believe that most people would be OK with it if we were in Japan, but since we aren't, access should definitely be restricted.

There is no infringement on the rights of others if you look at loli pornography, Therefor, it shouldn't be illegal. And that is why it isn't.
Saying that loli pornography should be illegal because some one who looks at lolicon might engage in Child Pornography is the same thing as saying that movies with violence in them should be illegal because someone who sees them might commit an act of violence. Both utterly ridiculous statements, and even though they might on rare occasion be true, it is definitely NOT the majority (or even close), and it doesn't mean you can say it should be illegal for everyone. The only other arguments I've seen in this entire thread for the people against it being legal are arguments saying "It's bad because it's implying sex with children! It's morally wrong!" If this is you, You better realize that the reason real child porn is illegal is simply because the government believes that a child under the age of 18 is not mature enough to consent to sexual intercourse, not because "we think it's bad."

And "Making someone do something that the are not mature enough to consent to" is something you think is bad, which is why you render such situations illegal.

Yes, because someone's right to consent is infringed. Nothing more.
There is no moral argument here.

Another question is, what is considered hentai or lolicon and what isn't? I think everyone would agree that this:
/O\ \(.)|(.)/ | / \ Is not at all pornographic... but how accurate and detailed must a drawing be before it crosses the line and becomes pornographic? Certainly there must be some sort a threshold where it transcends crude depiction and becomes actually pornographic. What is that threshold or line? Also, photographs are just very detailed and accurate drawings if you look at them closely enough... |

I say it should be legal, but if you think about it, it's hard to say. I mean if it is a child, then it could be illegal, because that person has child porne in mind, so it could be bad. I just don't think it should show degrading pictures of people who are obviously children, that way it can stay legal in all ways necessary.

PS I change my response to kilroy's post to "HAHAHAHAHAHA." I realize now that that more or less reflects my actual opinion.

I just think that if it is based on children, anyone under 18, and it is degrading or shows private and sexual parts of the body, that it should be looked at as "Wrong" by most people. If it was specified to lokk like an exact person it should be illegal though (If it is what I said above.).

So...if it looks like somebody you -know- it is wrong, but if it doesn't then its ok?
I'm perfectly fine with people being for -or- against lolicon provided their reasons have any amount of internal consistancy. |

There are a lot of belief systems which have internal consistency which are still wrong. Here's a better revision, be fine with people being for or against anything, or otherwise having any opinion or belief, except when the opinion or belief is used to infringe upon the rights of others.

I was referring less to the correctness of the opinion, and more about ones validity in stating their opinion like it ought to actually be considered rationally and logically.
I can look at your opinion and decide on the balance that I don't agree with it, but it is only worth looking at in the first place if it at least is internally coherent. |

It can be described as pedophile artwork in many countries. But as long as no human being is being harmed, then it is legal.
