That's a rediculous amount of money to put into one system, especially a server. You could build ten high quality servers that will share the load instead.
It's hard to say what my dream computer would be. There's really only so much I could put a PC to use for. Even for a heavy-duty video editing platform I need only spend a MAXIMUM of 10k... and a lot of that's just paying for a 2% upgrade in performance. Now, if I were to build a computer I don't particularly need or wouldn't really have any remote use for, other than touching myself while looking at it, I'd custom build my own huge chassis with a monitor built in... can't explain the rest. I'm saving it as a secret project to be entered into a case-modding competition.

...uhh.. you mean like spam popups while browsing the internet? that has absolutely nothing to do with a computer's components. Spend 5 minutes downloading and installing FireFox with the right tools for free, and you'll have your "dream computer".

A computer with
A 128-bit graphics/video card that can display like a trillion colors. 5 Terabytes of RAM 5 Terabytes of HAM A giant 2 foot screen A DVD drive, CD-ROM drive, and a drive that can play video game disks. Voice recognition Touch recognition for the screen The ability to heal itself when I punch it when I get angry at the computer. 5 4 foot tall speakers with built in surround sound. And to top it all off, Windows Vista-XP. (Some goofy name I made for a version better then Vista lol) |

So it can be completely unrealistic? Ok.
Well I don't have too unrealistic needs. -5 terabytes of RAM -Highest end graphics card with at least 500mb memory -3 15 terabyte harddrives -a HD LCD 24" monitor -7.1 surround sound speakers -10gbps network card -HD DVD RW drive -Blue Ray RW drive -Highest end wireless mouse with side scroll -And an awesome case with a cool design and liquid cooling. Ooo I'm gonna have to add to this -Touchscreen -Some sort of imaginary operating system that I know like the back of my hand(Windows) but that doesn't suck. I have an Alienware now, but the need for more memory is killing me.

Mac Pro running two 30" Monitors off two 512mb video cards with 2 TB of HD space and 32Gb of ram of course all being powered by two quad-core processors.
My pocket money is just running a little short on paying for it.

Lol onboard video on thats server? Why? Have fun not being able to play any games.
128mb video card? That's like 3 generations ago, why the hell would you want that as a dream computer. I just bought part of mine. P4 3.2ghz Proc 1gb DDR2 800 ram (getting another 2 gb in a week) EVGA nVidia 8800GTS (320mb version. It is a beast and can run any game out today on max quality at ~ 45 FPS. Seagate 250gb HDD 10000 RPM NXZT Silent Case 550 watt PS. I would like to upgrade to a quad core processor, but I'll probably go with a core-duo by september. I'm thinking the 6300 should be good enough, sticking with XP. I'll bet getting the other 2 gb of RAM. I'm not too much of a packrat, so I don't need to upgrade the HDD. My video card already has DX10 and a built in physics card, so I'm all set for next-gen gaming. I'd like get some quality creative surround sound speakers, my onboard sound is Dolby 7.1, and a Viewsoinc 22'' widescreen monitor. EDIT: Don't SLi two 7600's. That's dumb. You could afford an 8800 GTS or GTX for the same price, and get better perfomance, and all the next-gen stuff. |

Are you trashing my laptop? Not really my dream computer, but I like it. I get 200 fps in Enemy Territory which is more textured then CS 1.6, but I cap at 76. Minimal lag, it's a good cheap laptop.
32 GB of RAM is overkill, even for an extremely advanced machine. And no motherboard as 32 slots by the way. |

Most of you disappoint me by showing just how little imagination you have. The idea that "more is better" is stupid. This is why the heads of corporations who screwed the country over by stealing billions of dollars have second and third houses they never even live in. If one of you told me you'd put some of that money towards an impressive case mod, or if you did something that made your system more than an expensive silicon and plastic turd, maybe I wouldn't look down upon you so much. "LEIK ZOMG I WANT 5,000,000,000,000,000 GOOGOLPLEXES OF YOTTABYTES OF RAM IN MY SYSTEM AND 5 MILLION PROCESSORS EACH RUNNING AT 5,000,000,000,000,000,001 TERAHERTZ LOLOLOL" After a certain point, you end up spending over 50% more for a 10% or less increase in performance, and more often than not, one component in your computer is bottlenecking your performance anyways. If the sky's the limit and you have infinite amounts of money, I want to hear somebody talking about investing money into a new form of hardware that will run much faster, like the fabled quantum computers. Let's hear somebody talk about other hardware, about building a studio, about what they'd use the hardware for! That $30,000 dollars can get you an entire audio studio, or an incredible video system complete with render farm and several HD cameras and shooting equipment... ..and 32gb of ram for two quadcores??? How pathetic. Oh, and sammo, based upon the content of the guy's post, he meant computer components, and when he posted the topic he was asking you to respond accordingly. Yes, this means you are wrong. Grow some hair on your balls, people, and use your heads.

Dream compy? ok.
Let's go with: Core 2 Duo Extreme QX6700 2.66GHz 8MB Cache 1066MHz at least 4GB 800MHz Low-Latency DDR2 SDRAM (really can't imagine what I'd need more for...) Windows XP Media Center Edition RAID 0 2x 1TB HD Serial ATA 3Gb/s 7,200 RPM w/ 2 x 32MB Cache Dual CD/DVD ROM Drives - one for blazing CD/DVD R/W, other for Blu-Ray SLI 768MB nVidia 8800 Ultra Ageia PSU - 128MB GDDR3 27" Ultrasharp Monitor Creative Soundblaster X-Fi "XtremeGamer High Definition 7.1 Audio" would probably need at least a kilowatt power supply yum.

Any computer that doesn't lag when I play FFR, and can load 10,000 StepMania songs in 10 seconds. Ah, and it has to come equipped with an ultra high-tech keyboard for maximum performance.
Actually, I already have a computer like this, but it needs a darn keyboard... ![]() |
