Default Ways to Become Better

Is there a way to become a better player in this game other that more practise... I can do the easier ones good but when it gets faster and more, I suck...

Even more practice.

Or play Stepmania.

Practice will always help... but there are some little things you can do to help your play:

1) simply listen to random music and try to find the beat. Then break the beat from quarter notes to 8th's, and then 16ths (this is called subdividing, btw... little bit of music lingo for ya). Having the ability to pick up a beat quickly will help you stay on time and get back on track.

2) practice doing/reading certian patterns of steps, such as: left, up, down, right (where the arrows look like a slant going down-right); left, down, up, right; left (slant, down-left)... etc. If you see common patterns of steps, try to train yourself to recognize those patterns, then execute the entire pattern from reflex, rather than reacting to each step individually. (HOWEVER: do NOT get locked into this form of play, it helps.. but it's not something to live by)

3) as mentioned before.. get Stepmania or Dance With Intensity (I prefer DWI, but it's personal preference) and then go hunting for stepfiles. Play around with the mods too, try pushing the speed up and getting used to reading fast, or slowing it down and practicing reading scrunched up arrows.

That's all the suggestions I can think of at the moment, but, ultimately, it comes down to time wasted...er... uh... spent... playing FFR/DWI/SM. Unless you've just got mad innate skillz and pick it up insanely fast.... then you're awesome.

Remember, play for fun. Don't worry about getting Perfect Full Combos on everything... being the best doesn't mean it's the most enjoyable thing, just that you have to constantly look for new challenges. I'd say the learning process is the best part, don't be in a terrible rush.

Hope that helps, ja.

More practice, and if you have DDR, play that. Or try the arrows going down.
