Three fingered has more than just straight forward play, there are quite a few different ways to hit different streams. It has the same characteristics as index, along with the capability of hitting jumpstream. For steady stream songs, such as CIA, theres no need to do "crossovers". Sure it is no where near as handy as 4 fingered spread, but it still has its strengths over index.
On the other hand, you can also mix spread with three fingered to avoid one handed trills. It's decent I suppose.

Yeah, currently Ridder can crush me in SM, but back when I got those scores, I was better than Ridder.

I actually thought I was one of the only ones on the site that played Three fingers style. I thought I was the best xD. Well at least now i have something to work for! ;p

I play 3 finger, not terrible at it, but my PA is really bad. After I get my PA good on everything, I'll be way better. I get so many goods and averages, and I lose in MP because of it. I own in the combo, but my PA is so bad that I lose.

I used to play 3 finger as well, I'm still pretty decent at it, but spread completely blows it away in every way, except of course one handed trills.

I tried playing spread, but its so weird, I tried it for about 500 games, then I just gave up and went back to 3-finger.

I'm 2 hands, 3 fingers, yeah, it's good for hitting streams that go into weird patterns quickly. Still 1 handed trills, just left-up ones.

I'd say Scottish is the best 3-finger spread, but RaikouRider is a damn good 3-finger one hand player.

It takes about 3 weeks to fully make the switch, you have to be patient, give your body time to get used to it, then you'll never play 3 fingered again.

I can do indecks fairly well when I play for fun. I've Fc'ed Playdoh that way by accident and couldn't do it with my normal playstyle.

Yeah, I play 3-fingered also. I think I'm ok (I've only beeen playing since christmas). But I'm not the judge ya'll are. My PA is ok...>_>

Yeah, Scottish AAA'd, and I bfed (tonight, actually XD) FotBB, both 3-finger.
I dunno, it has WAY more of an advantage over index, and the advantage over spread of one-handed trills, but I'm too lazy to learn spread completely.

Scott doesn't really play FFR much anymore and Ridder is mainly plays SM, so I might be the current best? Definitely not if those two come back... "full time".

At ffr I was really never good, I just achieved rank 1 and basically stopped playing, but I know my SM 3 finger'd skills are extremly high. So if you think im not that good, think again and read earlier in this post lol, ps frenzy and sp. =)

too bad his SM scores get ignored because he posts guitar hero scores

3 fingered seems to be incredible for one-handed trills especially the FotBB gurus lol...although 4 fingered regular spread is overall the best style. a finger on each key, fingers never have to move or delay time in between hitting keys, making it the fastest style possible.

I use to play 3 finger but i move on to spread since i realize i can't do fast crossover and some patterns on 3 fingers. But i'm still good on 3 finger, It's all depends on the song
