My entire post was about stem cell research, which does not have steady funding, so do you think when I say "START POURING MONEY INTO RESEARCH PROGRAMS" that I am oblivious to the fact that they are already doing this for other projects?

So you're saying the -only- way to try and find a cure for all of these diseases is stem cell research? If I'm to read your "context" of "I'm only talking about stem cell research" then you must mean that as well...

The current administration in America isn't even funding stem cell research.
That would be because stem cell research is -illegal- in the United States.

What can stem cell research do anyway?

Beside the thing that many people could get a job.

It isn't "-illegal-". Where did you get that information from?

Of course it isn't the only way to find a cure, but it is a great way. I said "anyone who is against stem cell research is against finding the cure for cancer" because the research is a great way to look for a cause, and being against a great way to do something usually makes you against doing it all together.

Man i hate how practically everything comes down to spiritual beliefs. But assuming you don't believe in God and that humans don't get "souls" sometime after fertilization. I think it only makes sense to be for stem cell research. Think of it, if the consiousness of every human is already contained within every egg and sperm, then essentially everytime they don't become a human (which is closed to always) you are killing the unique information of a could-be human. So unless you plan to advocate rights for every sperm and egg, fertilization should not matter.

I suppose one's opinion on stem cell research more or less revolves around whether they're pro-life or not.

I, personally, think that pro-life is rather an ignorant opinion, particularly on the matter of stem cell research. Think of it this way, the unused and aborted embryos are there whether you like it or not. So why just throw them away when they could be used to help find cures for otherwise uncurable deseases? Why throw them away with the possibility of curing millions of people just because "the embryo has rights too!"

And besides, even if the stem cell research didn't end up in finding a cure for all this problems, it's not like doing a little research in the matter could possibly bring use further away from a cure.

First, just because I'm a big fan of Penn and Teller's Bull****, I have to say a great big **** YOU FRANK to all of the statistics mentioned in the previous posts. I just skimmed over what everyone had posted, as I don't feel the need to read everything at this moment. That, and I'm pressed for time already as it is. On the subject of stem cell research, I believe it should be legalized. Someone made a good point, people donate eggs and sperm. Are they not life? Are they not the beginnings of life? I stem cell research were legal, which is should be because I can see no reason to make it illegal, we could save countless lives. I'm sure everyone above had already made the same points as I, but just thought I should put my two cents in as well, because this is an issue that I think in our country is BULL****! Other countries overseas are making great progress in their research...We're falling behind, and soon people with diseases that need stem cells may leave the good old US of A to go to those countries in order to recieve the medical treatment they so desperately need. Y'know what? I think I'm movin' to Canada...this place sucks.

i've been hearing about this topic alot in school lately, normally its one of those things that will take up more than half of the class period as a discussion. but really, i think that stem cell research should continue. there are so many advantages to using stem cell research. i mean, scientists can use the different cells now, and with their technology, they can figure out new ways to make needed cells, grow or repair organs, fight diseases, etc. when scientists are doing studies and research with stem cells, they are always learning new things, making new discoveries, and running into new problems. but as they further their research, they are constantly coming up with answers to older problems. i guess i could really go on and on, but i doubt anybody would want to sit and read it, but if you really want to know, there's always independent research =]
