Has anyone heard of a new handheld from Nintendo? I was just wondering. I mean, I sorta wanted a DS lite, since I only have the original (blurry scratched screen), but if there is any news on a new handheld, I might not get a lite.

Unlikely.
1989 - Game Boy 1996 - Game Boy Pocket 1998 - Game Boy Color 2001 - Game Boy Advance 2003 - Game Boy Advance SP 2004 - DS 2006 - DS Lite Try 2008 at the earliest before you see another handheld console from Nintendo. Except that the DS is incredibly popular and is approaching the success of the original GameBoy with only two years under its belt, so it doesn't seem like it's going to be phasing out any time soon. |

I think it's worth mentioning that in nearly 20 years, despite the fact that there have been numerous forms of Gameboys and such, there are really only 3 eras of Gameboy plus the current DS.
EDIT: He left out Gameboy light too. And the original gameboys that came with XTREME COLOR CASES. And Game and Watch. And Pocket Pikachu. Lots of handheld Nintendo devices... Squeek caught the notable ones though.

I saw GameBoy Light on the Wiki but ignored it.
Really I could have just done GB, GBC, GBA, NDS and have been done with it. Nintendo has this weird thing about downsizing their handhelds until they finally develop better technology. |

Yeah, it sucks that the first generation of their handhelds is outdone in a couple of years, with the longer period between the GB and GB Pocket. Though th GB Pocket actually made the colors more "black and white" than the original.

I love my Game Boy Pocket, but the glue holding the outer hard plastic layer on the screen froze and fell off.
I held off on getting a DS for the longest time, but once Animal Crossing came out with Wi-Fi capability I couldn't wait any longer. ...Then the DS Lite came out like a couple months after. Meanie heads! I've really grown attached to my DS Fat though. It may be bulky and have crappier buttons but I'm used to it and love it now, so I see no need to replace with DS Lite.

I got a Gameboy Color and was content with that for the longest time. However, when the Gameboy Advance SP came out, I really wanted it because of the backlight because it was so annoying to play games with no or low light. I own and play many more Gameboy Color games on my SP than Advance games themselves.
The DS was just way too expensive for me so I just borrow from friends. Oddly enough, one of my friends has 2. He lost one, bought another one, and found his old one. ~Tsugomaru

Nintendo doesn't suck, and if your DS gets "grimy," CLEAN IT!

Actually, I agree about the DS Lite casing. It's not horrible, but that slick outer finish just has a tendency to feel oily, no matter how often you clean it. Other than that though, it's a pretty good improvement on the regular DS.
I saw a thing one time where someone actually sanded the outer finish off the DS... I wouldn't risk that myself, but they did a pretty good job on it, so it probably feels a lot nicer in the hands with the matte finish.

They make a casing you can buy and use to replace the old casing to make a matte DS Lite. Personally, I want the magnum chrome casing. Your complex argument has convinced me to go out and buy a PSP so I can play a port of The Warriors and a crappier version of Monster Hunter.

The only thing I hate about my DS Lite is that you have to press really hard on the D-Pad to go diagonal.
