Coins are falling out of a person's pocket traveling at ~50 M.P.H. The terminal velocity of coins is about 65 M.P.H. and it doesn't take much to reach that terminal velocity. Getting hit by a coin going that fast, even if it has very little mass, would hurt quite a bit. Even though the rumor that a coin dropped off a building will kill you is false, it'd hurt just as much once it reaches terminal velocity. Besides, as was previously mentioned, they keep nets under areas of significant coin lossage. It's very unlikely anyone would be hit by falling change. Cedar Point once said they make $10,000 a year just on loose change. |
